[OPEN] Left-aligned Lower Bunk Beds Not Working

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.96.365.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All of them except Modern Menswear/Pastel Pop
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Place a single bed perpendicular to an upper bunk bed, with the ladder on the RIGHT side (see pictures below).
What happens when the bug occurs? Sims refuse to interact with the lower bed when directed to sleep/nap/relax/sit etc.
What do you expect to see? Sims use the lower bed as expected.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I noticed this problem about a week or so ago, so it doesn't seem to be related to the March 14th infant update.

When a single bed is placed at a perpendicular angle to an upper bunk bed - with the lower bed on the LEFT/ladder on the RIGHT - a sim will not interact with the lower bed. If you place the bed at a perpendicular angle with the lower bed on the RIGHT/ladder on the LEFT, the sim will interact with the bed correctly.

I've experienced the issue with a variety of beds, although I have not tested with every possible bed combination in the game.

My screenshots illustrate a bunkbed setup that fails (ladder on the right) versus a bunkbed setup that works (ladder on the left).

  • OMG, I also noticed this problem the other day, but it was the very first time I'd tried placing the bunks at right angles to each other. I assumed this was an old bug that I just happened not to encounter until now, but I guess not. I have NOT installed the infant update, and this issue predates it, so it's definitely from some earlier patch. My configuration was like your first example, lower bunk on the left, ladder on the right.

Indeed, bunk bed placement has been buggy for a while, possibly due to slotting furniture issues.

There is a workaround that enables the perpendicular placement:

    1. Place the bunk bed

    2. Place the second bed underneath (not perpendicular, but parallel).

    3. Go to LIVE mode.

    4. Go back to Build mode and place the second bed perpendicularly.

  • I worked a Home Decorator gig last night in which I installed an upper bunk bed on the left side. When I went to place a toddler bed underneath, it would not snap into place directly under the top. Instead, it snapped into place facing the direction in which the pillow was under the bunk and the foot of the bed was outward. I have attached a picture. I did not attempt to right place the bunk. My work around was to place the toddler bed down first, then the upper bunk. It worked fine like this, though a bit aggravating to not be working like before. I have version 1.96.365.1030 with no mods installed. I removed them prior to the infants update and have not reinstalled any. I installed Growing Together yesterday and have all packs except Journey to Batuu and Spooky. I had not tried to place any bunk bed after the infant update, so I do not know if this is an infant update issue or a Growing Together issue.

  • @bizuktag As of today, I am also having this exact problem with the lower bunks. If the lower bunk is placed parallel to the top bunk (like a traditional bunk bed), it works fine. But if the lower bunk is placed perpendicular to the top bunk, the bottom bunk becomes unroutable.

I have also had problems with Sims not being able to use the top bunk if there is a dresser snapped to the bottom. It has made designing small bedrooms for kids very difficult since none of the space saving features the game is supposed to have are working correctly.

@bizuktag @hamsterbellbelle @SnarkyWitch @BonnieSimmer11 @jmcdan02 I just wanted to add I have located the source of the issue for those who are still having issues. The entry point for these beds is considered the side opposite to the ladder. So lets say you have the beds flush up against the corner, because the bottom bunk is in the corner its entry point is blocked by the wall. Im assuming the inner side just doesnt have an entry point, only an exit point

Second image is blocked by wall, first is working after pulling it away from wall

Edit: did some further testing, it ONLY happens if its blocked by a wall like thing. Furniture does not block it (unless you use bb. Ofc)
