Outer doors somehow obstructed for pets

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? Version 1.83.24.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? cats & dogs, seasons, island living, outdoor retreat, dine out, dream home decorator, romantic garden, toddler, laundry day, my first pet, holiday
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? ?
What happens when the bug occurs? ?
What do you expect to see? The pet dogs cannot get through the front door or back door. It just shows the obstruction symbol with the footsteps and red exclamation point above the dogs' heads in a thought bubble.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

For my Sim house, I've tried deleting stairs, walls and doors, and put new ones up. I removed objects put in with the bb.moveobjects cheat near the doors and stairs (including indoor staircase and outdoor steps to the porch). I tried extending the walls with the doors outward. I have a small foundation but didn't change it. I deleted rugs by the doors. I deleted my Script Mod. I don't think I have other mods. The doors are unlocked for all. None of this helped. What else can I do? How can I find out what the obstructions are?

  • Hi Crin,

    To answer your questions:

Strangely, I tried putting back only my old saves by adding the Tray file back in. After I did that there was no New Game button, Load Game button or Play button, only a New Scenario button. I kept adding back more files to try to get those button options back, and I ended up having to put back ALL of my old Sims files, to get those buttons to reappear.

I tried something else. I don't understand how, but it works. I changed the puppies into adult dogs and now they get through the doorways fine. Weird!

    Thank you!

  • Hi @FurtherHat

Try resetting your user files as described in the factory reset described in this post: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4/FAQ-Troubleshooting-Steps-amp-Known-Issues/m-p/3621199

You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files  and make a backup.

After renaming, repair your game by right clicking on the game in Origin.

Try on a new game with nothing added back first (start new game). If it works, put back your save game and try again. If it still works, you can start putting stuff back.

    • Options.ini (or just re-set all your settings manually)
    • Tray Folder
    • Screenshots/Videos/Custom music
    • Rest of the save games (leave out slot_00000001.save which is the autosave and no longer needed - if you still have it)
    • Custom content like clothing, hair, skins, make up ....
    • ConfigOverride, if you have your own configuration files.
    • Mods (one by one, making sure they all still work)

The rest does not need putting back, cause they are mostly cache files that recreate or log files that are not needed for the game.

  • Thank you Crin. I appreciate your efforts to help me. I followed the link you sent me to the factory reset directions, but unfortunately, something went wrong before I could complete directions. It went fine at first. I backed up my Sims files and did the factory reset which auto-generated a new file, as it should've. When I tried to start a "New Game", as it instructed, the option to play a "New Game" was not there. It had been there before but that and my old saves were gone. The only choice was "New Scenario". I tried that but it just went to Create-A-Sim. Since it couldn't proceed, I put back my old saved files to make the game playable again. But the obstruction glitch/bug was still there. Sadly, this was all for nothing.

@FurtherHat Did you just put back the old saves and it was still happening or did you put other stuff back as well (like your mods and stuff)

It's normal that the saves are gone after the factory reset and that you need to start a new one. Was there a play button ? A new save always takes you to CAS first.

Did you test if it works on a new save game ?

@FurtherHat Could you maybe start a new save game, then try to make a puppy again and see if it's maybe not working for puppies only ? Personally bit short on time currently so I can't do testing.
  • I did the test you asked about. I saved the lot with the house and the obstruction issue into my Gallery. I started a new save game and made a new Sim with a puppy. I placed the house onto the same lot space as the other old saved game. I placed the new Sim + puppy in that house. The same obstruction occurred- the puppy could not enter through the outer door. I suppose that's not surprising.
