Placing any residential lot on a rental lot breaks the lot

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Rarely (0% - 9%)
What is your current game version number? 1.70.84.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All Expansion Packs, All Game Packs (except star wars, spa day, strangerville), Stuff packs, Paranormal, Nifty Knitting, kids room, first pet, spooky, tiny living, Free holiday pack.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Place the premade haunted house lot onto a rental lot and move sims in. Go out of the game to manage worlds and try to go back to your sim family.
What happens when the bug occurs? The screen in manage worlds first says resume family when coming into the game from the main menu, then after moving your mouse it says rental lot and doesn't show your family, then if you go into the lot in build mode the sim screen stuff pops up and you can't even edit the build... or see your sims image and emotions on the side.
What do you expect to see? I expect to see the normal family photo when hovering over the lot and be able to play with my sims on the lot. The rental lot thing should have switched to the haunted house lot thing when I put the lot down too.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I hope this isn't an issue for others but now I cannot play with my sim family!

  • @LydiReubTills Was the family renting the home at the time you placed the lot ?
Did you change change the lot type to haunted house when placing the lot (from the drop down menu) ?
  • Sorry for replying late! It was a rental lot before I placed the haunted house and my family wasn't living in it yet. I put them on a separate lot and placed the haunted house down on the rental lot. After I put the premade haunted house down I moved my family into it thinking it was now a haunted house but it broke and when I came out of my game to do something I couldn't go back to play with my family. I also have a couple of pictures.

@LydiReubTills Sorry, now it's at me for a late reply. Finally got around to test this and yeah, totally broken.

What you need to do is move your family out through the household manager and back to the lot you were on. Then enter the broken lot in build mode and bulldoze the whole thing. change it to haunted residential, then place the house again and move back in. Now you should be fine.

Seems to happen to any residential lot type as far as I can tell

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I moved my Sim family into a lot that was marked as a residential lot (it was a renovation of a rental but on the gallery it was set as residential lot and when I placed it, I checked that it was a residential lot). When I was newly moved in, going into Build Mode did not allow me to purchase anything (it kept saying "Insufficient funds"). The UI item for the money was overlayed with a cash register icon and the number 0. I saw in the lot settings that it was marked as a rental and I was unable to change the lot type due to the lot being occupied. I went to Manage Worlds and tried to move the household out, but clicking on the now marked as a rental lot did not give me the option to evict and when I entered the lot via "build mode", the UI was bugged (see screenshots). The calendar shows the work schedules of the Sims that live on that lot. When I attempted to exit the lot, the screen went black and nothing happened. I had to force quit the game through Task Manager.
What happens when the bug occurs? See above.
What do you expect to see? N/A
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.

  • Hello @crinrict

Thank you for the response. The issue is what is described in the second link. I should have mentioned in my first post - I was placing a residential lot from the gallery onto an existing rental lot in Mt Komorebi.

I attempted again with a different residential build and had the same outcome. However this time I moved the family to another lot using the phone menu instead of going into the world view and trying to evict them. I went into the world view and the problem lot was now showing as a rental.

I went into build mode of the lot, changed the venue type from rental to residential. I moved the family back in and it seems to be fine now.

@Xplotiva I merged your post with that thread then. Make sure to click that me too button on the first post.

    Glad it's working now.
