(Note that this post says solved but in the end deleting the localthumbcache.package was a temporary resolution)
So I eventually decided to restart my save anew without any Copy Worlds. As a longterm player with what you could call a mega save that I've been working on for years it took 2 months to rebuild my world. Transfer over 2000 sims, every lot from the non-copied worlds, remake every relationship, give everyone their old jobs, etc.
But now I'm encountering this early corruption of the willow creek lots with the release of Tomarang and when I add in rental properties.
- nathaneous12 years agoSeasoned Vanguard@jarl44 Thanks for this feedback. I'm also in a similar position as a legacy player with over 2000 sims in a slightly modded game (dont use the Copy Worlds mod but use a few of Zerbus other mods).
I was contemplating doing what you have done which is to rebuild on a new save and replicate my current game but it sounds like you have already done this and encountered the same problems again! Your feedback saves time for people like me!
The general consensus is that is a lot limitation issue which will need EA to fix because it happens without mods in the game. Alot of long-term players are reporting on this issue more and more... - sabodreyar2 years agoSeasoned Veteran
My case is similar, both my daughter's saved game, which she has been playing for years since the game came out, and my wife's or mine's, we have years of game progress, which we would not want to lose.
And by the way, I do have that MOD that you mention, but only in my game, not my daughter's or my wife's, and even so the error happens in all of them, this since the release of the new expansion.
At the moment the only thing I have been able to do to avoid the error is not to have the content of the new expansion installed, although it is abusive, because one pays for a product that has only managed to corrupt the game, if at least it was broken but not corrupted the game, one could at least play, but there is no way to do it without the risk that all the lots end up corrupted in one way or another.

Hope you all are having great holidays! Just a quick update from me:
I went back to a backup save from before installing For Rent, and used cheats to bring it back to the most recent state, but didn’t add any residential rentals this time. Played for hours, and there was no corruption (For Rent was still installed, and the default residential rentals that come with it were there)
I added 6 residential rental units, and again played for hours. During this I was also uploading other (non-rental) builds from the gallery, building new lots etc. Again, no corruption.
Yesterday, I decided to play in Tomarang. I replaced their default residential rentals (with the same number of units), and added a building with six more units. Again, played for hours and all seems fine.
So in total I ended up adding only 12 units, and the game handled it well. So I know it sucks, but until EA fixes it, I think the only way to enjoy the game is to use the new expansion very delicately.
Also, regarding your games, did you all try doing “recover save” in the load menu, to try finding any non corrupted version? This way the loss of progress is at least somewhat smaller
I just wanted to add that this issue happened for me when I was literally using no mods/CC at all, just the new expansion
- nathaneous12 years agoSeasoned Vanguard@LauratkoK Thanks for the feedback and glad your game is working with the testing you are doing.
I'm in a discord group with TwistedMexi and he suggested that the issue could possibly be with using the 'bb.increasrentalunitcap on' cheat. Apparently there is a suggestion that using this cheat might be corrupting the saves and causing the lot issues? Its not verified that this is the issue but seems to be a logical explanation and worth looking in to.
If you havent already activated that cheat in your backup save that you are playing then try to keep adding residential units up to the max of 6 and see if this causes any issues after you've done a few in your game. I think the game has a limit of 99 residential rental units across an entire save so bear that in mind if you are able to do the testing! (TwistedMexi has a beta mod which increases this to 250 but probably best to run this test vanilla for now). - 2 years ago
I’ve never used that cheat and my game still got corrupted! I did add lots of residential rentals back then, but vanilla way, no mods and no cheats. So honestly, I feel like it might be just the amount of lots (with each unit being treated as one lot). I don’t know why everyone has a different cutoff number after which it breaks, maybe it’s RAM related?
- nathaneous12 years agoSeasoned Vanguard
@LauratkoKLol! At least you've tried it and confirmed that the issue still happens. Not sure if its RAM related? I have 32GB ram and only hit 75% memory usuage when running Sims 4. My game is pretty smooth so if there is a cutoff i would hope it would be higher! We really need EA to get their finger out and start resolving this.
The lack of communication/response from EA on their own hosted forum about this issue says it all really...the silence is deafening...
- 2 years ago@nathaneous1 I have used the bb.increasrentalunitcap on in my save and also use the TwistedMexi mod to increase units to 250, however I get the bug when I have over 20 or so units in my game. So far the only way I know to bring back my corrupt lots is to get rid of units, which is fine as long as I don't lose my save entirely, I don't think I have the patience to do a transfer for all the lots I have in all the worlds to a new game.
- jarl442 years agoSeasoned Traveler@nathaneous1 I am pretty sure it's not RAM related. My PC has 64gb of RAM and Sims is only using 20-30% of the usage.
Sadly, whilst I can continue to play the game I will have to do so without the installation of the new pack. - nathaneous12 years agoSeasoned Vanguard
I've been testing so many different scenarios using clean saves prior to the expansion pack and always end up running into the same issue at some stage. I think the For Rent pack has too many bugs that is hitting all types of gamers. I came across this thread https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/NEEDS-SAVES-FR-Stuck-on-Residential-Rental-Lot-type/td-p/13291850/page/8 where lots get stuck on residential rental and you can't change them to a different lot type once you've registered it as residential rental. I've also noticed this bug in my game aswell which might be related or could be unrelated who knows!
EA really needs to fix these issues because it looks like this pack is corrupting a significant number of saves across the board. For now my only hope is that they release a fix in the next patch.

@nathaneous1 I also have this bug that you just linked. Not even once I managed to change residential rental back to any other type. I wonder if these two bugs come together…
Regarding the RAM, I didn’t mean that we have too little. Most of people in this thread have computers above the minimum requirements, as far as I’ve seen. But I wonder why everyone has a different number of units after which it consistently breaks?
But then again, if you all never reach any significant RAM usage than it cannot be it. I’m almost sure it depends on amount of lots in general (not just units) so maybe the number of units after which it breaks depends on how many lots we have in our games?
but then again, if you go to the beginning of this thread, it also happened to people with just a few expansion packs, and no mods. However, obviously there might be many different roots of this bug, and perhaps what they experienced was caused by something else entirely?
I wonder if we will ever know haha
