These seeds can also be purchased using the computer by clicking on purchase seeds.  All of the options are there and they all can be purchased.  This is an option if you don't like to use the planter boxes.

I just noticed that in a save that was created pre:Seasons that even though both my sims have maxed their gardening skill, I can't buy any of the seeds that require gardening skill in build/buy mode.  The option does appear on the planter, but the option for the seasonal plants is not available under 'order seeds', instead you need to go to 'order' and then 'order seasonal seeds', so as it's currently set up it is a bit confusing (ie the fact that the seasonal seeds are not with the regular seeds). I don't recall noticing this in a save I created post Seasons.

Are you still looking for saves @SimGuruIcarus?

    Thanks and regards,

    Jennifer

I believe I sent my save in to Icarus through PM; it appears in my oldest save where my already max lvl gardener can't purchase the seeds in Build mode.

    Hello everyone!

Were you guys using a cheats or anything else to skip skill levels for Gardening?

    Thanks! 🙂

I didn‘t. It happens to all my Sims who already had full gardening skills and even the green thumb. (before the season pack)

I think this has two factors when this happens

    • Pre-existing gardeners that were all levelled-up before the patch
    • If you cheat them up

Did anyone ever get their saves looked at? It's been a while and I have a new save way past what I sent.

I was maxed out prior to Seasons. I didn't use cheats, I  did gardening the normal way.

I added an NPC sim to my household and discovered he had level 10 gardening skill (Cooper Barrow, maybe he's a pre-built npc, but I didn't know at the time). He could buy all seed packets from the computer or planters, but I could not buy them from build mode.

Once another sim reached the appropriate levels, the seed packets unlocked and I could buy all of them from build/buy mode. This is base game (+RG and freebies), no mods or cc every used. It appears that whatever unlocks the household buy ability needs to have the skill levels unlocked through gameplay (after the seasons patch?), at least that was the case in my game.

Leveling up using a wishing well and getting an overwhelmingly positive skill wish outcome (Maxing gardening to 10) will lock out the ability to buy seeds.
Anything that increases your sim and skips any skill level will block out the ability to buy seeds.

If the sim leveled to max by cheats, or before joining the household, or by any method other than leveling up in the household (like the wishing well), it is still locked in household buy mode. The sim at level 10 can buy the seeds via computer or clicking on a planter, but the household buy is locked.

I've had this happen both via the wishing well skill increase, and adding a sim to the household who already had the gardening skill maxed out. Both times, the sim could buy the seeds, but the household cannot. Not sure if that is by design, but it appears that unlocking buy mode is directly linked to skilling while in the household.

    Hello.

Is anyone still seeing this (that hasn't used cheats to level up the Sim)?  If so, could you provide some info on how and when your Sim leveled up?

  • I'm still seeing this in my game. the sims in question levelled up by gardening months before the gardening change/seasons patch. no cheats, just gardened (planted and tended plants) while working on the freelance botanist aspiration.

new sims created after the gardening change patch and getting level 10 gardening skill can buy the packets in build/buy mode, it only seems to effect sims that were created and had level 10 before the change patch for me.

Tested this in a vanilla base game with RG and freebies.

Moved a sim who skilled up to level 10 without cheats to a household with a sim at level 2 gardening. No problems, could buy rare seed packets from household build/buy mode.

Saved a sim with gardening level 10 to my library, started a new game and added him to the bff family. This also caused no problems; was able to purchase all seed packets from household build/buy.

Previous sim that was invited to household was game-generated, a gardener with level 10 gardening skill. He can buy rare seeds from computer or garden, but they can't be purchased from build/buy mode. In this instance, I guess game-generated sim = cheated skill level, as he did not acquire the skill via gameplay.

I do not have any way to test a sim who leveled gardening prior to the seasons patch.

It appears that this bug has been fixed for any sims who level gardening without cheats in game version 1.51.77.1020. :eahigh_file:

I'm experiencing the same issue (unable to buy rare seed packs in build mode and but also unable to purchase seeds from the planters).  I found a work around though. If I go to a public lot, I can purchase the rare seed packs and place them on the ground. When I open them the contents go into my inventory.

If you still need saved files and I can share. I tested the saved files on both Mac and PC and the issue exists in both.

If the seed pack is part of a collection and rare, I wonder if you need to find the seed first before you can buy it.  Also some seeds need level 7 fishing before you can plant them.  The cowberry rare seed can't be bought, you find it through fishing or grafting.

@valenzakay If you can't buy seeds from planters, it might be a different issue.

How high is your gardening skill ? Are the options to buy on planter greyed out ? Can you buy seeds on the computer ?

Any mods/cc in your game ?

Hi. My sim levelled up to 10 gardening with no cheats but I cannot buy rare seeds at all. There is no option to purchase rare seeds on the computer or planters in live mode.
