@crinrictI think this is suppose to be a gameplay feature for island living but it has never worked right  your sims are suppose to have the plants in there inventory after they pull them up

I looked at a coconut tree my sim was going to pull up and it said if you can manage to  take  it home you can plant it in your yard however you need to look around to make sure no conservationist see you
