Re: [OPEN] Can't disable Neighbourhood Stories (Completely/part)

@Poochie0055 I merged this with the main thread but to be sure, you don't have any mods that have their own story progression (like MCCC) that could be the cause for the moving in ?

  • I haven't had time to test it without mods.  And I'm too invested in my modded save file... Yes, I have MCCC, but it was not an issue for me until I updated my game with latest patch and installed For Rent expansion.  Or maybe it's related to my sims traveling to the magical realm.  It didn't happen last night when I played and didn't travel there.  Fingers crossed.

@Poochie0055 Check the settings for MCCC Story Progression if you have anything set to on with moving in. Personally not using the mod so I can't tell you where those settings would be.

@crinrict I have a save that I play with MCCC and have had problems with story progression being active despite being unchecked. This did not happen before the For Rent patch/installation. It is a new thing, and very annoying, since I have to keep moving sims back into their homes and undoing marriages I did not want to happen.

The only option for MCCC concerning story progression is whether or not you want the mod to override settings IF you have story progression activated. It is a yes/no choice of override or not. If story progression is not activated, then MCCC does nothing. It cannot make something happen by itself. I have never enabled the mod override, so MCCC is and has always been inactive concerning story progression in that save.

I did notice that some of the story progression choice boxes were highlighted by default, whether or not the box was checked to enable story progression. I undid the highlighting, so when I play that save where I use mods, I will take note whether changing the status of the choice boxes makes a difference. But it really should not matter, technically, if the story progression has not been enabled at all, to begin with.

@amjoie That's why all reports should always be made on a vanilla game. To rule out it's a mod. There's so many bugs in the game, it's really a shame it the Maxis needs to test mod stuff as well and then find out it's nothing they need to fix cause it's a mod. It's really just a waste of everyone's time.

@crinrict I think those of who use mods make a good effort to test with and without. As I mentioned I tried this in a new save with no mods/cc but this issue is very intermittent. I could play an hour and then randomly get 10 notifications of sims moving or dying (which I have turned off). I also play with minimal mods but because of this, I am going to start a new save, despite that I hate it, and play without mods to gather info on this. It sucks as a player b/c we can see these things going wrong and we know they are new issues that are not likely to be introduced by mods but the real waste of time FOR ME as a long time player with every single game is trying to open my game mods or not and play and encountering so many bugs and glitches that I spend more time researching and testing than I get to actually play. My issues got really bad back when growing together's prepatch came out and have continued to worsen with each new patch since. I had issues before but nothing like what I've had since April. It's miserable to have a game you enjoy and play for stress relief to cause so much more stress and grief due to errors by the makers. Just please understand and realize no one here wants to waste EA's time, we just want help.

Coming in with an update for whoever it might help.
I started a new game (no mods, they are off)... I had zero neighborhood notices (usually you get some but I got none).
I didn't time how long I played but at least a few hours the game was running.

I added MCCC only.  I played another few hours.  After about an hour, I got a TON of moving notifications.  I screenshot and moved on waiting to see if I got anything else.
In the meantime I researched what I could about MCCC and moving and there is a section in population that MIGHT be responsible.  I am still testing on this.  After the inital issue, I didn't get anymore moving notices and no death notices.

I turn off all move in/move out and all deaths in neighborhood stories for the record.

I have added in several more mods including Twisted Mexi and UI Cheats (one at a time and playing a few hours/leaving the game running at least).
    No notices whatsoever.

I am continuing to research this the best of my ability for us so if you/anyone here has something I should try, please let me know.

I have only had the weird moving notices one time so far and I can't figure out how/why it came up, I can only make assumptions it has something to do with MCCC but then why didn't it keep happening?

I researched more the deaths that I get often in my game (is there another thread for this?) and it talks about the "culling of too many sims" with repeated deaths.  I am curious if that's my issue in my main save.  I had originally a blank save I've built up with families and homes and I rotate play but it would suck if the game insisted on killing them off for that reason.

@crinrict if you have any suggestions, I am all ears and happy to test. 🙂

@mrstank30 All I need is people to remove ALL of their mods (even MCCC, it's a big mod and can cause side effects that aren't expected).

I wish mod users were responsible as you suggest but unfortunately, that is not always the case.

There's Game and mod issues where folks can post in when they need help with their modded games. The bug forum is for vanilla game issues only cause that's what the team needs to look into.

Ok, I knew that I had to change the story progression setting in each save. However, I did NOT realize until just today that I had to set story progression for BOTH my played households and ALSO non played households.

So all this time, I naturally had set story progression while I was in the played households window. I assumed that once I set story progression to off, it was off for THAT SAVE. However, it seems, since I never set it separately for non played households, which I rarely have open, that story progression has been on this whole time for the non played households.

The only mystery to me is why before I installed For Rent, I never noticed story progression running. It sure was obvious after I installed For Rent. It is also a mystery why using MCCC or not using MCCC would make one whit of difference if the problem has always been that non played households were allowing story progression.

In all the threads I have read, no one ever said, at least that I recall, anything about having to set story progression in both played and non played household windows.

So, if anyone else totally overlooked this in their game, besides having to set story progression for EACH SAVE, you also need to open BOTH the played and non played households windows, and set story progression separately for the global played households, and the global non played households.

Hopefully, that will solve the story progression problems in my game, and I do hope it helps someone else, too. Whether in a modded or mod free game.

    Such a simple solution .... I hope. LOL  😉

@amjoie It depends where you turn it iff.

If you turn it off completely in the game options, it should be turned off for everything.

If you turn it of in the game options, it's very flexible and can be set on many different levels

This thread originally was about the global setting in options

MCCC is relevant as it has it's own story progression but it depends on your settings there and if you have that module or not. Not using the mod myself so I can't tell you what you can actually set with it.

**Face palm** Thank you for the screenie. I never scrolled down to that setting. I thought the global setting was in game, only. Which means I have always had story progression on, even when I thought I had disabled it globally.

But that makes my situation even odder. Because before the For Rent expansion, I never noticed story progression doing anything other than once in a great while, some family had a kitten if they had two cats in the household.

After For Rent installed, my game went crazy. Sims were marrying all over the place, random sims had babies even if they were single living alone, random families had baby horses, sims moved out of one home and into another. I had never seen any of that before. It was story progression on steroids, and kept happening every time I opened my game.

From what I recall, it was happening in both my unmodded and modded saves. And I had not changed any MCCC settings in my modded saves. So something did markedly change after the last patch/For Rent installed. (I suspect they wanted more action in rental units, so changed some parameters. If so, they overdid it a bit.)

Regardless, I do apologize for the confusion in my reporting. I honestly did think I had globally disabled story progression, before, when I obviously had not ever unchecked the real global setting in game options, irrespective of the in game settings.

Now that I actually have the right box unchecked, if I notice any more problems, I will let you know. LOL

@amjoie Maybe installing the pack did mess with the settings you had done locally, hard to tell :D

So this problem is in progress from year 2022? And still isn't any solution, only completely turn off neighborhood stories? Why is it in game, if it doesn't work correctly? I play on Playstation 4. I try get trophy "Legacy player" and "Alphabeth legacy"... but, problem is, that when I turned off option "Adopt child" in Neighborhood stories, my family members (I don't play activly with them, but I have them in world) still adopting children. I don't want a family tree with million members and it's annoying deleting sims in CAS - cuz loading is neverending when I go to Manage worlds.
Also, I find out yesterday that sims where I turned off option pregnancy, have a biological children. For me it means, that sim is infertile. But I was wrong.
As I write - I play on Playstation 4 so I don't have any mods. I have most of expansion packs - except For Rent and Horse Ranch.

  • And it still happens to this day. Ever since the update last week (September 2024), the entire game for me has gone to s**t. It took me over 3 days trying to get it fixed, and it still somehow enabled the stories and it's dumb shenanigans.

How it happened for me is, whenever I close the game, and play it again, random sims appeared and placed in lots ALL OVER THE WORLD. All these random townies, and pre-made maxis townies just living their lives when I don't even want them. The fact that even loading much older saves didn't fix it, I am very much inclined to uninstall my game forever. Fix your game, EA, or delete neighborhood stories, period.
