- crinrict6 years agoHero+@LyssSimpatico Could you test a fresh save that never had any mods in ?
Also make sure to delete the localthumbcache file. - Bearpal646 years agoSeasoned Ace@crinrict I can testify that even on console Adults and Children cannot take selfies together or use the tripod to take a picture with .... together. They can both be on the markers and take pics that way. But I can't set up pics of parents and kids without markers.
- crinrict6 years agoHero+@Bearpal64 Tested this and I'm curious now how the friend of OP did it then. I get the option for two Sims without the mark but they don't show up as option with your Sim.
Not sure if this is a bug or on purpose though. - Sid1701d96 years agoSeasoned Ace
Photography is a Adult Skill as it came as part of the Get to Work expansion pack run a retail photography retail shop. Even though kids can take pictures with camera the skill won't show up until adulthood, non of my teen sims seem to have the skill either. This is why kids can't take pictures with Adults. There is a work around though have the adult and kids be in a group and now use the photo studio from Get To Work to take picture of group.

@Sid1701d9 Ok, but in my game. Children can gain the Photography skill. It is one of the 13 that they can gain skill in plus the original 4 for a total of 17. And it's really easy too. Just send them out into the world and take about 125 to 150 pictures and the skill maxes.
I don't know if there is a problem with adult/child photos now though. I don't take many group photos. I'll have to check when I start my game but I do recall there was a similar issue a while back but I seem to remember there was a patch note indicating that it had been fixed. May be wrong on that though.
Also, if you have IL, sims teen and above can gain photography skill by diving at one of the buoys. I can't remember on children atm.
Edit: Ok, children can take regular photos of teens and above and vice versa. But not selfies. They can only take selfies with other children. Teens and above can't take selfies with children. I suspect this is because of the height differences between them and teens and above. This is with a camera in their inventory. Didn't try with a photo studio or the tripod.
Edit 2: Went back in and tried with the tripod and marks. Could not find the poses in the OP's picture but could get a child and teen to pose together. TBH, and maybe I'm wrong, but the poses in the picture seem to be a pose using Andrew's Pose Player. I've got some that are very similar to what's in the pictures.
so can we all safely say this is definitely a bug? My friend was able to take pictures of their adult and child without markers and we cant? Lol. I contacted gurus on twitter but no response.
- crinrict6 years agoHero+@LyssSimpatico I don't know if it is hence the unsure.
How did the picture turn out for your friend ? I was able to get adults and children on one picture but as you said, not together. I just didn't get the option with the active Sim and a child. - Sid1701d96 years agoSeasoned Ace
It could be my children needs to max out creativity before the photography skill will unlock. My child sim skill was level 7.
- CGrant566 years agoHero+
@Sid1701d9 Yes, that is probably it. All of the other skills are linked to the initial 4 which have to be maxed before you get any progress in the other 13.

Not the greatest video. It ran longer etc.
So I made a new family and I tried to test photography options.
Parents can't take selfies together with kids
Parents can't take pictures of kids with either phone or the tripod.
I can get a picture of parents with kids if there is another adult there using taking picture of.
I can take a picture of an adult holding a toddler
On the one hand I get it but at the same time I was certain you could take selfies with kids before. Just seems odd that you can't take family portraits together without really trying to trick it
I would also like to point out the severe slowdown after switching from photography mode back to live mode.

@Bearpal64 Ok, what you are seeing is the way it normally works. I don't think we have ever been able to take selfies with children due to the height difference but don't know that for a fact since I hardly ever take selfies with more that one sim. When I have tried to take selfies with two sims, it's always been with teens and above. Never tried it with a child and an older sim until testing it for my earlier reply. Selfies only seem to have 3 poses and the heads of the sims always seem to be close together so I do think it's the disparate heights that prevent it from happening. I do play on a PC though so it might be a little different on a console. There is another way to take pictures too if you have a camera in a sim's inventory, you also take photos from clicking on the camera in the inventory but any way I tried I couldn't take a selfie with a child and older sim.
- crinrict6 years agoHero+@CGrant56 It's not different on PC. That's what OP and me tried to say :D
Still don't know how OP's friend does it unless they use mods which they said they don't - CGrant566 years agoHero+
@crinrict Understood on the PC & console versions. Sorry, didn't mean to confuse the issue.
On the poses in the pictures. Since they can't be duplicated with the cameras and poses, I going to check if I can recreate them in game somehow. The one that looks like a high 5 might be the give props social but I don't know if it works between a child and an older sim so I'll test. The one with the hand on the shoulder though idk. It looks like they may be watching something together so it may be something with a watch option. It could be that the friend was using the take photo option that doesn't use a pose on both pictures instead of pose options and just happened to catch it when it happened. It could also be just a saved screenshot and an in game camera was not even involved at all too. But I can't recall ever seeing something like that during gameplay so I'm curious if that is one of the little hidden gems you run across in the game from time to time.
Yes I found out selfies is not an option. I can not take a picture of a child and an adult sim together unless i place the moschino markers. My friend was able to take pictures with her sim children without the markers and poses were interacting with each other. She does not use andrews pose player either.
EDIT1:
She was given the option on the small menu that shows in the corner with emotion faces. (If that makes sense) she clicked the happy poses and thats what came up. The childrens poses interacted with the adults.
EDIT2: Here is a video she sent me

Hey! I’m the friend with the magic poses, lol. All I do is have an adult go to tripod to take a picture. I choose “take picture of” then it gives me options of children and adults who are on the lot. I choose a child and an adult, and they pose sweetly. If I use markers they will not do the sweet poses.
- crinrict6 years agoHero+@Lizaster523 Maybe the poses depend on the relationship between the Sim that you take a picture of then.
I really don't think this is a bug. Selfies with children are not possible, probably due to height issues as @CGrant56 said. but you can take them with a child and another Sim.
It's what I'm seeing. Don't meed a marker. - CGrant566 years agoHero+
@Lizaster523 @LyssSimpatico Thank you for posting the video and posting about how it was done. You've shown me something new and it is appreciated. I really like those poses!
@crinrict I think you might be on to something with the relationships. Definitely going to test some more now that I know how it was done.

@CGrant56This is interesting. I just created the family I used as a test and they didn't know each other super well. They knew each other well enough but also not super high.
Update:
So I tried to just take pictures of Mom and Daughter.
Oddly enough sometimes it worked. They would pose together. But most of the other times they would pose separately but together.
I can't figure out how they pose together as a family rather than pose together doing separate poses.
I cycled through all the different poses and they won't come together if they are already posing separately.
- CGrant566 years agoHero+
@Bearpal64 Thanks for linking the video. I haven't had a chance to play around with it yet. I couldn't get a child and an older sim to pose together when I tried earlier, I was trying with a child and his aunt, then with his teenage brother and then with his adopted dad. Mom was at work at the time. So I want to see if I can get it to work with the mom and child to get the poses you got in the 1st part of the video.
i made a mistake selfies were never an option i guess. But the poses of them interacting are not in my game but they are in hers. Why is that?
- CGrant566 years agoHero+
@LyssSimpatico Idk what exactly is going on. It seems to be hit and miss. I did manage to get them once with child and mother in my testing but most of the time I keep getting the separate poses. And trying with different sim combinations, I just kept getting the separate poses so something has to be going on that I haven't figured out yet. But they are in the game. Just how to get them reliably is the issue. Still working on it though and if I find a reliable way to get them, I will post it in this thread. Really puzzling, that's for sure. So keep checking here and maybe I'll have found something by the time you next visit.
I did max out the friendship level between mother and child. Made sure they were in happy moods. I invited over another child and they could take a picture together but not with adults. If its not a bug and it’s something required in order to get the kids to take pictures with adults, i think the gurus should give this a look as it is really difficult to get these pictures.

Selfies are definitely supposed to be unavailable between children/adults, due to height differences, that's by design. The inconsistency with Take Photo With sometimes working and sometimes not sounds like a potential bug, we can investigate, thanks for all the info everyone 🙂
- crinrict6 years agoHero+@SimGuruNick Thank you
@LyssSimpatico Could you edit the first post to make this report about the poses being so different ?
