Toddlers/Infants Will Not Eat Food/Sleep/Babble

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.99.264.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All of them
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Pick up a serving of food. Drag it either to a toddler or a high chair. Have the toddler try to eat the food. For infants, try putting them to bed or having them babble.
What happens when the bug occurs? The toddler will just sit there. The food disappears from their inventory and an action will appear for the toddler to eat, but nothing happens. With the infants, they will not go to sleep despite it queued nor will they babble when queued. They will just idle.
What do you expect to see? Toddlers eat the food either on the high chair or in their inventory. Infants will go to sleep when the interaction of trying to sleep completes and they will babble when it is queued.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. Updating my game to the July 18, 2023 patch.

Here is a screenshot of my toddler just sitting there, not eating despite the action being there.

Her hunger need is in the red. I tried feeding her in the high chair, on a bench and now on her bed. She pulls the food from her inventory, but it doesn't show up for her to eat. She just sits there looking upset. I had to cheat filling her needs up just so she wouldn't get taken away. I thought it was a problem with the high chair, but even out of the high chair I can't seem to get them to eat. She is a werewolf and I did make her after the recent patch. I have yet to test in other saves and see if it affects all my toddlers or if it is just affecting this one toddler.

Edit: So, I had saved and exited the save to the main menu. Upon loading up the save, she is eating now. I have no idea why she was bugging out despite trying to reset her and moving her around, but she is eating now. I will add more if I see this pop up again.

Edit 2: I tweaked the title to match more of the problem as well as adjusting the frequency as it doesn't happen 100% of the time like I initially posted, but has happened a second time in the span of a day.

  • I have the same problem but my toddlers aren't werewolves. Yesterday, I saved and exited, upon loading up the save, she was eating. However today the problem is back. The only thing she can eat is fruit or vegetables in her inventory.

There is also an issue with infants, they cant sleep.

I just discovered that infants trying to babble is bugged as well. It was working fine, at first. I was queuing up babble to unlock the social interactions and my infant is now just sitting there. I'm going to try saving and exiting to main menu. I'll tweak the title as now it affects not only toddlers not eating, but infants with sleeping/babbling. I don't know how to put them to find it as I'm not sure myself. It just kinda happens.

Here is a video of my infant just idling with babble interactions queued up.

Edit: In regards to infants babbling, I tried saving and exiting to main menu and straight up exiting the game. Despite these two methods, my infant still cannot babble. This is frustrating as this was a way to unlock the social milestones quickly. I was not having this problem before the most recent update. Now my infant is broken and unable to babble.

Edit 2: After having the father of my bugged infant interact with him (i.e. kisses, blowing raspberries, etc.) my infant is now able to babble again. I don't know if that fixed it or if there is now a cool down on how many babble interactions you can do (like the bug for babbling to stuffed animals), but it's back for now.

Edit 3: I tried a save before the latest update. It seems the infants are affected in saves made before the patch as well. Trying to babble will cause them to idle. Something I noticed was that there will be a time where they can get in a couple babble interactions and then they can no longer do it. They will idle and maybe a sim day they can babble a few more times, rinse and repeat. This makes unlocking social milestones difficult as now I can't que up a bunch of social interactions on the infants end. Parents can still interact with their infants like normal/no problem. It's just on the infants side where the problem occurs.

Edit 4: So, I had queued up the max amount of babble interactions for my infant. Him and his dad having just been standing there doing a staring contest for about 11 in-game hours. Not once did they talk. And it seems it's bugged on the parents end as well. I queued up the dad's socials of talking to the infant and it worked well, but now it's acting like the infants babbling.

@DracuAlice2017 I am having the same issue but my sims are regular human sims. I didn't have the bug yesterday but now I do today. I am not using cc either. I hope this fix this bug soon.

@DracuAlice2017 Ok I tried something that seems to fix the issue. Try repairing your game. That is what I did and it seems like it fixed the issue.

@r2567 I also found that by placing them in something (i.e. a crib or the playmat) it works perfectly fine. Sometimes I have to have my sims pick up the infant before they can place them in the high chair to feed them, etc. It's annoying but it is a workaround as well.

  • Toddlers are becoming stuck in the “eat food” interaction without actually eating their food. The hunger bar continues to go down as normal but is not replenished. This is true for all kinds of meals, (cooked, quick, grand) and happens both in and out of the high chair. Their action queue includes the “eat ___” interaction but no animation plays and they don’t actually eat it. No similar problem applies to any other life stages, including infants.
