2019 New Career Ideas

The 2019 version of What new careers would you like to see added to the game?

@Vinciguerra said they'd like the shoemaker career.

I think I'd like to see Firefighter and Rock Star.

I would really love a musical theatre career maybe in the same format as the acting career only you can choose when you move onto another job.

Me too! I think a playable musical theatre career would be best, but it would also be great to just have it with the other performer options.

Playable teacher would also be awesome, but especially if it came with playable school for the kids.

One thing I REALLY want is to be able to have the careers that you see other people with in the game, and to have them be playable. Some examples are mail deliverer, librarian, landlord (although then renting out apartments would have to be a thing), nanny, or maid. especially if my teens could be weekend nannies.

More part time jobs would also be great.
  • It seems the general agreement is that people want more playable careers. Here are all the amounts of interest for every career (I grouped some together when they were similar)!

At the top with 20 mentions: TEACHER! People want a playable teacher career for elementary and high school as well as playable school for the kids and teens.

Second, with 12 mentions: ARCHITECT! People want this to be playable as well with options to actually design and build buildings/lots as part of the career. Maybe with special lot types you unlock to build as your career advances.

Third are ROCK STAR/SINGER and LAWYER, each with 9 mentions.

    • Rock star/singer could be travelling and is agreed that it should be playable.
    • Lawyer could go well with university.

    7 mentions: Counselor/psychologist/Therapist

    6 mentions: Firefighter and librarian

    5 mentions: Farmer, dancer, mechanic/car repair/handy sim, secretary/banker/accountant

4 mentions: Taxi/bus/delivery truck driver, interior design, toddler daycare

3 mentions: Mail deliverer, construction worker

2 mentions: Playable bartender, beautician, hair stylist, fortune teller, alchemist, band member, cemetery job, musical theater, gym trainer, salon, house cleaner.

Only 1 mention: Pharmacist, gas station attendant, IT tech, sailor, flight attendant, blacksmith, glass blower, garbage man, grocery, cashier, waiter, baker, caterer, potion/spell maker, celebrity manager, historian/museum, chef at my own restaurant, freelance dj, comic book store, tattoo artist, hotel worker, news anchor, self employed, make up artist, dolphin trainer, fashion model, fashion designer, gymnast, engineer, landlord, and nanny.
  • Fortune Teller
    Paranormal Investigator
An actual Wizard /career/ for RoM
Vampire hunters (or just something like the ministry of magic and the Aurors from Harry Potter)

    Fire fighter (active please)
    Navy and Airforce military branches
    Bounty Hunters
Ranch hands (active) if they do a county living pack
Knights and Royalty based careers if they do a medieval pack.

    .....jedi....

  • I would love to see a hairdresser salon. Either work as a hairdresser and fix random customers hair, or just send your own sim to the hairdresser! Maybe the hair could also work as it grew longer over time, so that if you want your sims to have shorter hair you need to go to the hairsdresser :) We could even go and make a haircolor change og make some new stripes! Would be so fun and realistic.

It's 2020 now and we still need new careers despite getting some of the most wanted ones in DU.
Talking about DU I think we need more teen and part-time jobs.
Attending university is expansive especially for Sims fresh from CAS. So new part-time jobs (mainly with different shifts) would be very welcome.

    Some ideas:
    - nurse (early shift: 5 - 7 am, late shift: 9 - 11 pm; skills: logic and charisma)
    - book store clerk (5 - 9 pm; skills: charisma and writing)
    - receptionist (6 - 10 pm; skills: charisma and fitness)
    - spa specialist (early shift: 5 - 7 am, late shift: 6 - 10 pm; skills: wellness and charisma)
    - extra (film) (early shift: 4 - 6 am, late shift: 8 - 11 pm; skills: chrisma and acting)
    - secretary (law) (early shift: 5 - 7 am, late shift: 7 - 10 pm; skills: charisma and writing)
    - gardener (5 - 9 pm; skills: gardening and fitness)
    - animal care (early shift: 5 - 7 am; late shift: 8 - 11 pm; skills: vet skill and fitness)
    - culinary (early shift: 4 - 7 am; late shift: 6 - 10 pm; skills: cooking and gardening)
    - entertainer (8 - 11 pm; skills:two of the following guitar/violin/piano/dj mixing/singing/pipe organ)
    - game industry (early shift: 4 - 7 am, late shift: 7 - 10 pm; skills: gaming and programming)
