I agree. Having defined areas of a home overall would be awesome. It's semi achievable with locking doors for certain sims but that function is iffy at best something more concreate would be really useful for sure.
What happens with the door locks in Sims4? I was enjoying the ability to specify which sims could open which doors in Sims3 and it works really well.
Of course if it worked just as well in 4, that's still a heavy-handed solution because then, roommates and family members can never come into someone's room unless you unlock it temporarily and then re lock each time, which is a hassle and breaks immersion.
I wish they could bring back the doormats from Sims2 which let sims claim an apartment when there were attached ones on the same lot. That plus designating or claiming doors in a dorm, made all the difference.
