Amish Challenge

The Amish Challenge is something I made up on a whim in search of something new and different in my sims game. It turned out to be really fun and actually, really hard!

The goal is to live an Amish lifestyle on a farm with as many children as possible. Your garden and fishing are your only sources of food. No electronics or lights are allowed.

The start:
* Go to Windenburg and evict the family living on the Von-Windenburg Estate. Bulldoze the lot so it is empty
* Create a young adult couple who will be the mother and father.
* The father: must wear black that covers as much of his body as possible, wear a “top hat”, have a beard, be hot-headed and dislike children. You may pick the other trait and the aspiration

* The mother: must wear a black dress that covers as much of her body as possible, be family oriented, and neat. You may pick the other trait and aspiration.

* Move the couple to the Von-Windenburg lot
* Build a cabin that you can afford. It can have as many windows, doors, or rooms but there can be no electronics.
* Your cabin must have a few very specific items that fit the Amish theme such as: the Old Time Antique Toilet, the Floral Hygiene Clawfoot bathtub, the IceBOX Vintage Refrigerator, the Auld Crow Wood-Burning stove, and Smoreworthy Candles, Photopollution Beacon, or Photopollution Ceiling Light for lighting. You may have as many counters as you want, a bed, a painting easel (if you’re interested) and a bookshelf.
* Immediately start trying for a baby
* Get your garden started and begin fishing

Some rules:
* Your sims must never leave your lot (no one understands your Amish lifestyle)
* Children and teens are allowed to leave the lot for school and then must come straight home
* The wife must constantly be having children. The day she gives birth, she must try for another baby.
* The mother can only clean and take care of the kids. She can help garden but cannot fish.
* The father cannot help clean or take care of the kids.
* Once the oldest child reaches young adult, move them out and continue having children until you reach an elder.
* Your source of income can be from fishing, gardening, painting, or woodworking or beekeeping.
* Create as much furniture as possible through the woodwork skill. That means no tables or chairs until you make them! No end tables until you make them!
* Women always wear black dresses that cover as much of their body as possible. They also always wear their hair up.
* Men always wear black and cover as much of their body as possible. They also always have beards
* Children and teens must go to school every day and complete homework each night. Once they are done they are expected to care for their siblings, help on the farm, or fish to provide food for the family.
* Children may only play with toys made from wood
* All objects placed in the lot need to fit the look. Even if that means paying more for a particular object. No modern furniture.
* You may use Burtie’s Bee Box if you have Seasons
* Raise children the best you can
* You may update your cabin however you’d like once you earn enough money. Remember, you must stick to the Amish look.

I hope you guys have fun with this challenge!!

  • This sounds very interesting. I was thinking of doing some sort of "off the grid" or homesteading challenge. This has some good ideas.
