An Option to Set Gender Preference in CAS

It seems like every sim is bisexual by default, which in itself isn't a problem, but can be very immersion breaking when there's a sim you imagine to be completely different.

I find it very annoying when my sims I imagine as 100% straight autonomously (!) do romantic interactions with someone from the same gender. Or when my sim I imagine to be asexual is constantly rolling whims to woohoo like it's the most important thing in their lives.

I would really love some toggles in the gender options in cas, where we can choose the preferred gender of our sim (male, female, both or none). I'm sure it would give our sims some more personality and would stop them flirting with everyone they see.

My sims never do romantic actions with random strangers autonomously, so what purpose would this serve - I know if my sims are going to gay or straight or anything in-between.

The last time I played (and since day one) these Sims had affairs going on (in my game) with Sims they supposedly had seen out on community lots or open spaces. I've said this many times I guess, the game turned Watson gay though I had planned for him to marry Mary. It happens sometimes right in front of you if they are usually a romantic Sim and get a flirty mood. Or other Sims are flirty it spills over onto your own Sim. It may have been tweaked since the first year of game. However, last time I played it made a Sim of mine (straight) get up from his table at a restaurant and go flirt with another set of Sims (married) to flirt with the husband. In front of his girlfriend and the other guy's wife. I had never played them as bi or gay. It happens quite often if you are a rotational player. You can also return to a household and find out your Sims have affairs going on with strangers you as the player haven't even met in your game.

Tweaked? It got far worse. Now they roll out the wish to flirt with whoever regardless the sex, you just have to befriend another sims for the wish to appear. Sims in flirty mood flirt with everything that moves. Sims in confident mode do the "bold pick up line" with everything that moves. It seems like if you want one sims to be etero, the game do the impossible to force you into having him\her bisexual, same if you want your sims to be gay. I disabled the random flirting, it would be fine if a sim with an already established preference refused the flirt from other sims, but like this is a mess. And yes, I'm sure my sims have 100% established preference because I set them manually and check them with a mod.

That's sounds really horrible! If I were playing right now, I would be on here fussing to the hilt. But I do remember it was pretty bad last year before my saves got wiped out. In the other games (if preference has been set) they refuse a flirt etc., and or fold their arms and frown at the other Sim. Like, no thank you, I'm involved.
  • If you use a mod like MCCC or UI Cheats Extension, you can "flag" a Sim to be always same sex or always opposite sex when it comes to MCCC marrying them off -- I haven't done much with that particular feature but now I'm tempted to try it out just to see how/if it works. But for those who don't use mods or cheats, adding the feature, perhaps as an update to the gender patch (that gave us the opportunity to create transgender Sims) would be a great option.

I'd also like to see the game indicate when Sims are in a committed relationship (boyfriend/girlfriend and up) instead of only married/single. For example, if my Sim asks another Sim if they're single, it should indicate relationships like "X is the boyfriend of Y" or "X is engaged to Y". For some players, finding those relationships and breaking them up would be a new challenge, while for others they'd know to leave that Sim in the friendzone.

The nice thing about the whims is you can dismiss them -- you don't have to do them. I have a Sim that's just starting out so after buying her house she doesn't have much money left (she doesn't even have her own computer, but has to use the library computers for her writing; she'll get her computer at level 2 of the career) and she keeps rolling whims to buy stuff. I just X them out and move on. She'll get that stuff eventually but not till she's farther along.
  • I like the idea of a slider with two buttons on it you can move, one for each gender. Like this:

This Sim would be pretty asexual, with both the male and female buttons over in the "cold" section, but you could move each button anywhere along the spectrum!
  • The slider idea isn't a bad idea. All I know is I think if I were the person who really, really wanted the gender patch and all that entails it would be pretty insulting to have the game not respect that and have my gay guy going around with females. It sort of begs the question what was the point then? And for those who didn't want a gender patch it must be pretty insulting to have it off and it still make those sort of choses the player wasn't playing.

All I read in this form is about wanting the game to be "realistic" so it doesn't break everyone's "immersion" of realism.

What happens to your story telling when you want your straight sim to have a gay affair? That happens in real life more often than people want to admit.

P.S. 100% straight doesn't exist. There is no absolute guarantee.

Right, but it can mess up storylines badly, and not everyone likes randomness in their games. You just happen to play differently than me and some others.
