Apocalypse Challenge Discussion Thread
I've been playing the Apocalypse challenge by @Pinstar1161 for a few weeks now. I haven't seen anyone talking about it but I'm sure I'm not the only one playing it. Please feel free to use this thread to ask questions, discuss strategy, and share your stories. See Pinstar's thread, The Sims 4 Apocalypse Challenge Official Rules, for links to the challenge rules and a Getting Started video. It was difficult keeping track of all the restrictions at first but I got used to them pretty quickly.
I scouted the neighborhoods before I started the challenge by using one of my existing saves. I wanted to be sure that the neighborhood I chose had somewhere to fish and I also wanted to find the neighborhood that would help me the most. I chose Hallow Slough in Willow Creek. It has 3 fishing spots, 2 grills, 2 chess tables, a jungle gym, and a public restroom in the neighborhood. I also considered the community lot strips in both neighborhoods but I decided I didn't want to bulldoze any of the community lots.
I downloaded my founder from the gallery using the #wonderchild tag, as recommended by Pinstar. I chose Aidan Ellsworth by @DeviousKiwi. I found him a new job as a Tech Guru right after he moved in because I wanted to unlock the eSport Gamer restrictions first. He started at level 4 because he has the Connections reward, along with many others. I built a very simple house, just an 8x8 square with no interior walls. I made it a 3-story house right away with stairs going all the way to the roof and put a rocket on the roof since I wasn't sure I'd be able to afford one later. The first floor does have 2 tiles left outside the walls to provide room for the mailbox and a trash can. I also gave him a double bed, a sink, a 1-tile dining table with 4 chairs, and a bookcase. I put a computer on the table and a portable lamp (from Outdoor Retreat) on the bookcase.
Once the house was finished, I sent Aidan fishing so he would have something to cook. It took him awhile to catch his first fish because he didn't have any fishing skill, so starting right away was probably a good idea. After that, he used the grill at the neighborhood park to make Fried Fish and then started meeting people and making friends. I wanted to get him a wife pretty quickly but he didn't have enough time left before people started leaving.
I had already decided that I wanted him to marry Liberty Lee because she's a level 2 Astronaut and I wanted to use that rocket on his roof. She was there the first day but she didn't show up again until the next weekend, probably because of her work hours. Her roommate, Summer Holiday, did visit the neighborhood almost every day so Aidan made friends with Summer, asked her to move in on the first Saturday, then used the Merge or Split Households screen to move Liberty in instead. That was faster and easier than trying to rush a friendship with Liberty.
I don't want this to get too long, so I'll continue the story later.
