Blaze_Bard's Builds (try saying that three times fast :P )

I've always been more of a storyteller than a builder ever since my Sims 2 days in Veronaville making up Simified versions of Shakespeare characters that weren't from Romeo and Juliet or A Midsummer Night's Dream and playing out their stories. But I enjoyed building because, to me, the set was just as important to the story as the characters, costumes, etc.

Only one problem: I was a horrible builder. I would fill up a whole lot with a house, leaving no room for yard space. Then I would make the rooms too big and cluster all the furniture around the walls, leaving an empty gap in the middle. I played a little bit of Sims 3, but I didn't do any building because I remembered how awful I was at it in Sims 2. However, when I got Sims 4 earlier this year, I decided to try building again. At first I was still pretty bad at it, but after some practice and watching lots of speedbuilds on the YouTube, I think I've gotten better.

I saved screenshots of my builds right from the start, thinking that I would start a blog to share my Sims 4 stories, but after trying that I realized that blogging doesn't really fit well with my storytelling style. The other day, I was cleaning out my Sims 4 screenshots folder, when I found all these old screenshots of my builds. So I figured I might as well share them here on the forums. I don't do as many builds as a dedicated Sims builder, but I thought it would be interesting to let other Simmers see what I've come up with.

I have been doing more building lately, but ever since the July 31st patch I've been dealing with the blurry screenshots bug :( So since I can't get decent screenshots of my newer builds right now, I think I'll share some screenshots from older builds instead.

I did this build in May of last year. I was actually doing a test run for Space Case, sort of like a rough draft. And in this rough draft, Katie was living in Willow Creek instead of Oasis Springs, she had a roommate, and Fluffy wasn't there because Cats and Dogs hadn't come out yet. Anyway, I built these roommates a starter home in Willow Creek called Rose Cottage. As the name suggests, it's very pink. Other than that, I tried to make the look of it match the other houses in that neighborhood in Willow Creek.

The interior has everything that both of those roommates need for day-to-day living, as well as a few items to help them with their careers. In my final version of Space Case, I decided not to start Katie out with a chess table and exercise equipment in her house right away in order to make her early progress in the Astronaut career a bit more of a challenge.

And here's a view from another angle. I really do like the flowers from Romantic Garden Stuff for landscaping.

  • Rose Cottage is a very nice starter home :) The pink colour of the exterior looks very nice, and the flowers on the edges of the home look very pretty! Very nice front porch nook area for Sims to enjoy playing chess, in this version of the home. The layout of the interior looks very nice. It is great that there is gym equipment in this version for Sims to keep fit. They will enjoy painting on the easel.
The blurry screenshot issue may be fixed soon, with an upcoming patch.

  • I appreciate the feedback, @rosemow !

I've been busy moving house, so unfortunately I haven't had much time to play Sims over the past few weeks. (Moving house is so much easier in Sims than it is in real life.) However, after the August 16th patch cleared up the blurry screenshots problem, I was able to take screenshots of the build I made during that time! (I also had to flip over all those screenshots because I play on a Mac, but oh well.) Anyway, I built a spa/gym/pool for Oasis Springs. I call it the Mirage Wellness Center. My main inspiration for this build came from playing in Oasis Springs with Seasons installed -- I wanted a way for my Sims to be able to beat the desert heat.

This is the main entrance. I thought the shape looked cool, but it also made it difficult to find places for all the workout equipment.

I was originally planning to have this be the workout room, but then I decided to use City Living to make it a basketball court instead.

Outside, there's a shaded porch where Sims can meditate and practice yoga.

Downstairs, there are some spa baths and saunas. (Although, in the desert, a sauna seems kind of pointless to me, but I could be wrong.)

Upstairs, there's more workout equipment, a bar, some lockers, and I couldn't quite fit the sinks in the bathrooms because it's hard to place objects when you're working on a diagonal, so I put them just outside the doors to the bathrooms.

Here's a better look at the bathrooms. Again, it can be hard to place objects when you're building on a diagonal, which is why the showers and toilets don't fit 100% perfectly in their designated "stalls."

And last but not least (because it's kind of the point of why I made this build in the first place) is the pool area. Again, I'm not sure exactly why I added a hot tub because I don't quite understand why anyone would want to soak in a hot tub outdoors in the desert, but maybe it'll come in handy. There's another bar near a table with a drink tray, so Sims looking to quench their thirst will have plenty of options. There's also a kiddie pool and a few sprinklers so that the whole family can enjoy cooling off, and a shark slide from Backyard Stuff because, hey, why not?

  • The design of Mirage Wellness Center is very nice! :) Sims will enjoy doing the many activities in the Center. Each of the feature areas looks great! The shape of the areas looks very nice.Very nice nook areas for sims to enjoy using the treadmills, punching bags and the rock climbing wall. It looks very nice the type of windows used in the build. It is great that there is a basketball court for Sims to fun playing basketball. It is nice that there is a roof covered outdoors porch for Sims to restfully do yoga on the mats or meditate on the stools. Sims would enjoy using the bath tubs for refreshing soaks or mud baths. and enjoy spending time in the sauna. I think that sims who live in desert would also still like to use the sauna and hot tub in the build. It is great to have them in the Center.Sims would enjoy having a drink whilst sitting on the stools at both the indoors and outdoors bar, after doing their fitness training. Very nice outdoors pool patio area! Sims would enjoy swimming in the pool there, or have fun on the slippery water slide. It is great that there is an umbrella covered table for Sims to enjoy sitting in the shade having a drink from the drinks tray. The hot tub nook is great! Kids will like being in the kids wading pool.
Sims will enjoy visiting the Wellness Center ! :)
