Bloodlines

Chapter 1.2

I decided it would be in my best interest to try and find some kind of career. Something that I knew I would be good at. The best idea I had was something Athletic. I had seen an ad in the newspaper about a water boy position on the Llamas Team. It wasn't exactly what I was hoping for, but it had prospects. Maybe if I proved myself a good enough Athlete they would consider moving me up. After that, I began jogging frequently.

I wasn't satisfied with just being the water boy though. I wanted to try and make it on the team. I decided to hit the gym for a little strength training. Imagine my surprise when I ran into Kayla. I was so excited to see her. I was fairly certain she was just as excited to see me. We chatted for a bit about what we were working on in particular. I told her I was looking to do some strength training. She laughed saying she could definitely help me out there. "I'm somewhat of an expert."
I looked her up and down appreciatively and agreed.
Batting her eyes she looked at me curiously, "So why all the exercise?"
I laughed. "Do I not look the type?"
"No." She shook her head with a grin, "It's not that. I was just curious."
"I'm training to get on the team. Right now I'm just the water boy for the Llamas, but I really want to move up to be a player."
"The Llamas?" She shouted in shock.
I was concerned with her surprise and questioned her about her obviously distraught response. She told me that she was on the other team. I was floored to say the least. I mean... of all the coincidences... (A/N: True story. I was completely thrown off guard when I saw that she apparently was on 'The other Team')
She immediately stood up and looked at me seriously. "Listen, I can't train you. It's really against our policy. I'm a private trainer/Bodybuilder for the Freezer Bunnies. It's part of my contract."
"What are you talking about?" I asked jokingly. "I'm just the water boy."
She sighed. "It doesn't matter. As long as you are employed by them, I can't help you out. I'm sorry."

I was obviously upset, but I decided not to let my mood get the best of me. One of the guys I had met in town invited me out to a party in Sulani. It was supposed to be some big secret event. I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to get over my small heartbreak.

The party was pretty awesome. I have to say that watching Paulo get down and boogey was pretty awesome. Apparently the whole thing had been put together by some old DJ who was someone's friend's Grandma. For an old lady, she sure could throw some sick beats.

That's where I met Jade. She was by far the prettiest girl at the party. And there were plenty of girls there. I was even more excited to learn that she was around my age exactly. Only a few years older.


I of course asked her to dance.
She fumbled awkwardly with her reply. "I'm sorry. I.. well... I'm not the best dancer."
I laughed. "It's okay. I'm not very good either. Let's go crash this dance floor."

After that night, we hung out quite a bit and she even gave me some advice for gardening. I had told her about the situation with my property and she suggested using the flowers and vegetables I was growing as and additional source of Income. The advice was very appreciated.

With Jade's advice and a little bit of hard work at my job, I was able to get a small cabin going. It wasn't much, but it was home. It also meant that I was getting somewhere in my plans. I was extremely thankful. We talked about so many things and eventually I told her about my mysterious past. She understood and decided to help out with some research. She told me of a library in Willow springs that may have birth history as well as older newspapers.

We pored over every document we could get our hands on. While part of me really wanted to find out what had happened to my family... I was also very much enjoying the time I had spent with Jade. She was so kind and helpful. I really appreciated everything she did for me.

Some days she was less helpful, but she was a party animal. I'm sure she had been up all night with her girlfriends at Karaoke. While she rested, I decided to go fishing in the stream right behind the Library. I had heard Kayla once say it was a very good place for beginner fisherman.


Imagine my surprise when I spotted Kayla there. I calmly walked up right next to her and threw my line in. It took her a second, but she eventually noticed me.
"What are you doing here?" she asked barely looking at me.
"Fishing." I replied evenly without even glancing up at her. She didn't say anything else to me, but instead continued to fish in silence.

Every once in a while she would glance over and see me smiling at her.
"What ?" She asked.
"Nothing." I would reply with a smile. She was just so adorable. Every time I caught a fish she would sigh loudly. She constantly tried to out cast me and was starting to get very competitive.
"What are you trying to do here?" She asked suddenly.
I smiled, "I'm trying to fish."
She rolled her eyes, "No. I mean, why are you at MY fishing spot in the middle of the night? I told you I can't really let anything happen."
I shrugged. "Nothing is happening. I 'm just out here fishing."
Kayla rolled her eyes. "You know what I mean."

"Listen, " I told her. It was just a coincidence that I ran into you here. I've been at the library all day and I decided I wanted to go fishing. That was all."
"Right." She said, "And this has nothing to do with you wanting to get information about my team."
"It doesn't," I said.


It took some time, but I finally convinced her it was all just a crazy coincidence. I told her that I understood where she was coming from and that I would never imagine trying to get information about her team. I told her that I wasn't interested. As far as anyone needed to know, this was all just some strange small town coincidence.
"What's so wrong with us being friends?' I asked her. "We're not doing anything wrong."
She had calmed down quite a bit and I told her that for now, we were just friends. If anything happened, then it happened. We would cross that bridge when we came to it.
