Builders- do you mind renovation uploads?

Just a question, mostly out of curiosity. I’m (sorta) a builder but I don’t upload. I’m in the process of renovating a really beautiful lodge I found on the gallery - I’m turning it into a spa. Anyway I noticed a few people have reuploaded the lot with renovations. I thought maybe someone would like my spa, and maybe I’d upload after I’m done (with credit to the OG, of course). I’m just wondering how the creator would possibly feel, if they ever saw it. Is it complimentary (obviously I loved their build) or a little insulting (since I’m changing it and reuploading)? I would hate to upset someone with my very first upload..
  • It's probably not what you want to hear, but a general opinion probably won't help you with this. There are some people who couldn't care less, and then there are people who tell others that they're going to die and burn in hell for reuploading renos (I wish I was joking, but no, I've seen it).

I have very little experience with the gallery, but the way I see it, respect goes a long way.. even on the internet. If there's nothing in the description asking you not to reupload, then I'd go for it. If the original creator sees it and asks for it to be taken down, I'd take it down... not because I have to, just purely out of respect for that person's wishes.
  • Hard to tell with the whole Stop-Stealing-Thing going on the gallery.
I am a builder and I upload frequently - I always feel honored when someone takes my build and does something new to it. There is the "original by" mark and thats fine for me. I just wish they would hashtag my name, so I would be able to find their creations more easy and take a look at them. :)

The only thing I don't like are the "plain" reuploads, where people reupload my stuff without any changes. I get it, it's for backup reasons... But I sigh and move on. I wouldn't flag them or else.

It is nice of you, that you think about your first upload. With the whole hysteria in the gallery right now, I don't know if I would upload a remodeled build. And I would always respect a "donotreupload"-hashtag.
  • I must agree with jhgkjhgkjh.

I don't mind remodels of my builds, I actually encourage them, but I do dislike greatly when someone simply reloads a build or a Sim without any updates and then takes credit. This is why I always include the hashtag gcwcd - which stands for Give Credit When Credit is Due - on all of my uploads so that I can keep track of said reloads. Regretfully, I've felt compelled to report more than a few players who refused to remove their unaltered reloads. I know, I know, at the end of the day, it's just a game, but when you spend hours upon hours on creating something, only to see it be snatched up by someone else, it can really be a downer.

    Cheers,
    Ro
  • Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I will definitely double check the original upload for any hashtags I might have missed. If I do decide to upload (still not sure, seems that I could be unintentionally opening myself up to some negativity) I’ll be sure to make the description very clear who the original creator is and include their ID in a hashtag.

Thanks again, I really appreciate all the insight. :)
  • I suggest asking the original builder wether you may reupload it or not
  • I also suggest asking the original builder. As a builder, I know many of my older creations and some of the newer don't have a do not re-upload tag. For awhile I didn't know it was even needed, now I simply forget sometimes. I can say that it annoys me when I see my creations being re-uploaded unchanged without any credit to me. I would be open to remodels as long as I was given due acknowledgement.
  • I wouldn't mind as long as they gave me credit. If they didn't, obviously I wouldn't be ok with it.
