SemiQuaver, a Cantrell Chronicles Reset update- Chapter Seventeen
“Bree, are you not aware this is the First Sunday of Summer?”
“And?” she said, she blinked her large blue eyes at him.
“I’m just surprised that of all the bathrooms in this estate, you choose the Little Princes’ room? Really? I have to get ready to go— as in shave, shower and shine the pearly whites. What are you doing anyway?”
“I’m practicing my acting, what does it look like?”
“Oh, not to be mean, I thought you were an eagle flapping its wings or something. You look pretty silly, is all. Mind if I shave next to you? I’ll try not to bleed out if I nick myself.” Quickly, she handed him a small round stick, that resembled lip balm.
“This will stop the bleeding,” she said.
“Where did you get that?”
“Oh, it’s just sitting on the edge of this sink.”
“That’s Aaron’s. You do know he scrupulously checks for fingerprints. He’s going to kill both of us for touching his stuff.”
“Oh, why thank you big brother, crown royal-pain-in-the-behind . . .”
“Hey, that’s uncalled for.”
“Wow, you really are nervous, aren’t you.”
“Yeah, and you’re not helping.” With that he smeared the white foamy cream on his face and commenced dragging the razor across and down his face, keeping a wary eye on his little sister.
“If you please, your sweet highness, would you do me the honor of my privacy. I would like to shower, now.”
“Okay, okay, I’ll be sure to send your Valet in. Alfred is yours, right?”
“Oh, thank you, that is so very kind of you. Never mind that I have been dodging him all this afternoon.”
“Why?”
“We don’t agree on just what I should wear to the SemiQuaver, that’s why. If he had his way, I’d wear full dress royal regalia, crown and all . Now, I ask you just how would that look?” Princess Brianna put a hand to her mouth, stifling her giggle. “That would either make you appear incredibly eccentric or it would blow your cover to bits.”
“Thank you, you just may have given me the perfect argument. I knew I could count on you.”
Taking his phone out Erik texted Kayleigh. "Will be picking you up in forty minutes. Love you.”
“I’ll be ready. Love you, too.”
Erik stood in the shower, whistling part of a song and then singing some of it, too. “Well, I must say, sir, you’re in a wonderful mood. You must have settled on the outfit you’ll be wearing this evening.”
“Yes, Alfred, it will be the green shirt with the blue slacks. I believe I’ll look far less eccentric in that rather than in full dress royal regalia. And keep my crown in the vault, if you will.”
“Very good, sir. I shall return with your chosen outfit forthwith.”
“Sorry, I don’t mean to sound cross.”
“Perhaps a shot of fermented juice will ease your nerves, Your Highness.”
“Thank you, no. I have to pilot the Hovercraft.”
“Very good, sir. Have a glorious evening.”

After Erik picked up Kayleigh from her home in Verdemar, Erik set the vehicle on Hyper Space. In only minutes they arrived in Del Sol Valley and from there, he beamed them both to the third floor, which was the studio, itself. Taking seats in the front row, the audience trickled in.
The host made it to the microphone and then got the event started. “Good eveningm, I’m Leticia Gribble and I’ll be your host. Welcome to the SemiQuaver. Tonight, we honor the best new talent of this year, 2276. This event is solely for the newcomer. If a newcomer is nominated again, the title switches to the Best Artist of the Year. But I’m getting ahead of myself.” Opening up the envelope, she smiled. “This young man, all of sixteen,”
“Seventeen as of today,” Erik corrected.
“This young man, all of seventeen,” Leticia smiled in Erik’s direction. “Hit the ground running. All thrusters firing at once. His music is nearly untouchable. Fresh, new, magical but decidedly rock. You hear a song and you go away humming it. Some have suggested he may well be the next Beethoven. Time will tell. For now, let’s give a huge welcome to Erik Cantrell! Best New Artist of the Year, 2277!”
Erik stood up, pulling Kayleigh to her feet, too, where he promptly kissed her and then made his way to the stage.
“Ooh, snappy dresser, I like it.” Leticia said, as Erik took the stage. Glancing at her he smiled.
“Thank you.”
Erik stood quite still for a moment, as if gathering his thoughts.
Then he raised the trophy above his head, To You, O Lord
At last, he spoke. “I am ecstatic on being the recipient of this prestigious award. I know my older brother is groaning about now. He would say, “‘Don’t encourage him, please.’” This garnered a ripple of laughter throughout the studio.
“But, back to it I very much would like to thank the Academy for the nomination, and the Committee for their vote.”
At this moment someone from the audience hollered out, “It was unanimous.”
Erik’s eyebrows went up. “Well, my goodness, thank you so very much. I’m beside myself, truly. This is a considerable honor.”
Clearing his throat, Erik said, “When you work so hard toward a goal and then you begin to reap what you sowed, it just takes on a new meaning. I find myself humbled by this recognition. I just hope and pray I can keep up with your expectations.”
“I am simply overjoyed.”
“Yea! Good night, everybody, I haven’t eaten since noon and win or not, I promised my date a fancy dinner. Thank you!”

Barely seated, as soon as the host left the table with a promise a Server would be there soon, the two decided to continue flirting.
Kayleigh started to say something when Erik's phone went off. Taking out his cell, glancing at it quickly he said to his special dinner date, “Wait, wait, wait. Dad just texted me,” Erik said, “You’re simply not going to believe this,” he said.
“What, what is it? Problem? An insurgence. You probably shouldn’t have kissed me like that in front of the whole universe, you know.”
“You didn’t seem to mind at the time.”
“I wasn’t thinking at that moment. Forgive me. So, are you going to keep me in suspense?”
“I have been informed that I am to bring you to your new dorm tonight?”
“What? I’m not dressed for Britechester. And I don't have my luggage, besides. Oh, this incident must have pushed my father over the edge. Sometimes he just gets so strict it constricts my breathing. Why does he do that?”
“Kayleigh, sweetheart, don’t overreact. We’re not traveling all the way to Britechester tonight. I promise. We’re merely going to Bellacorde. You’re dorming with us. And we commence with our college prep on the weekend, as planned.”
Congratulations to Erik on winning the Award! 🎉He was quite nervous beforehand though. His outfit that he wore is lovely, as was Kayleigh’s ❤️The outfits complement each other. I hope that Kayleigh will settle in well to dorming at the family home.
Thank you. Erik has got so much going all at once, it's only natural he would have a fit of nerves before such a big moment. I'm sure haggling with his Valet didn't help much, either. And the princess was being a bit of a bug, too. I was waiting for Aaron to burst into the room and read them both the Riot Act for touching his stuff. 🙃
I read something once about the need to keep certain information about your characters, events, etc. on a notecard, nearby. I finally did so with Team Erik, noting the names of the different personnel that help him with his albums. I just discovered that I really need to have, front in center, which year I'm on. Yes, I typed 2277, for the Best New Artist of the Year. I have a chart, you see. Apparently, that's not good enough. Oi! I only discovered the error a moment ago, so I edited it. It now states Best New Artist of 2276. Phew! I'm currently playing on 7-day seasons. This time when the kids do their college schooling, it will take three 'years', inasmuch as they will have one class per week, to leave room for their other obligations. I have the season marked, Spring; Summer; Fall; Winter with a small empty square box next to each one. This way I know where I am in time and space (at least for the game). I even use a light blue highlighter to fill in the little box once my game advances. All of this to say, my cheeks are a bit on the crimson side at my silly mistake. 😖 🙃
GalacticGal Congrats on the award. And I love the idea of "dorming" in Bellacorde! Can't wait to see how that goes. Also ...

Aaron checks for fingerprints to see if his stuff has been touched! 🤣
