Pillow Fight, a Cantrell: The Eary Years, Part Six Update
follow up to Erik's Magical Mystery Tour:
The couple made it to the top floor of their house. Erik veered off to check on the twins, finding them soundly asleep, praying their little farce of a vacation hadn’t interrupted their new sleep pattern. Having them sleep all night was a treat. Satisfied, as he checked each room, that the family was truly alone, he made his way into the master bedroom. Kayleigh smiled in greeting. She was rather provocatively dressed, he noted. “Don’t just stand there,” she said, “get out of those clothes. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, I challenge you to a pillow fight. Get ready, Mister. And take off those glasses, I plan on being relentless.”
“Oh, I can take you, Babe. Just so you know.” He winked as he said it. Then blew her a kiss.
“My sisters always thought they could, too. You’re just too cute.”
Erik smiled, shrugged out of his street clothes and pulled on a long-sleeved shirt from his pajama drawer. Placing his glasses aside, he crawled onto the bed, grabbed a pillow and the two commenced with a vigorous pillow fight. They really went at it, too. Pretty soon both were out-of-breath from laughing, hoping their sounds of merriment didn’t carry down the hallway to the boys’ room.
They carried on for quite a bit, when Erik suddenly, called things to a halt.
“Okay, okay, okay, I am relaxed. Let’s call this off before dawn breaks and the boys need to get up.”
“Okay, but only on the threat they could awaken soon.” Returning the pillows to the head of the bed, the two crawled underneath the covers.
“Now, this is more like it,” Erik whispered, as he cuddled into her.
“Um, but I’m not ready to sleep.”
“Who said anything about sleep?”
Moments later, the two buried themselves under the covers and well, one thing led to another, as it so often does.
The next morning, the two were both feeling relaxed and still amorous. Their Ranch Hand, Michiko Matsumoto, had the day off, thankfully. It was no secret to Kayleigh the woman carried a torch for Erik. Sometimes, the couple would even find their cake topper half hidden in the clump of Prairie grass. Michiko really had a problem with boundaries, too. It was nothing for her to bang their bedroom door open, whether or not the couple was in there. Kayleigh wanted to have her fired, but then realized this little farmstead of theirs was admittedly too much for them to handle by themselves with the advent of the children.
The two went about their little farmstead, taking care of their animals and then Kayleigh got a look on her face. She all but shoved Erik into the heretofore unoccupied shed and the two followed nature and woohooed yet again.
By the time the two staggered out again, they were clearly spent. “Why, thankie for the tumble, Ma’am.” Erik mimicked a Southern drawl. Kayleigh smiled and laughed.

A very short time later, Kayleigh displayed some telltale signs. The thing that got Erik, though, was her suddenly need for pizza. He sat down across from her at their dining room table, enjoying a couple of slices of pineapple pizza, himself. Worried, he gazed over at her with earnest eyes. “Hm pizza again, eh?”
“I don’t know I just had a craving,” she said.
“In case you don’t recall,” he said, “You had a craving for it. Lots of it when you carried our first child. Children. Two babies, as it turned out.”
Later, as the secret was clearly out, he placed his hands on her steadily expanding belly. “Please tell me, this pizza-craze you’re experiencing again, doesn’t mean there’s two of them, too? Not that they aren’t welcome. In fact, since we wanted six, you could simply expedite things. Two, two, two and done.”
“Have you lost your mind? Two at the same time is hard work. You should know that, by now. I’ve left you upon occasion to experience it for yourself.”
“I just didn’t want you to misunderstand what I said, is all. I just want to know if it’s two babies, instead of one. No pranks. So I can get mentally prepared, unlike last time when I was effectively broadsided. Torpedoed. If it’s two, just tell me. I can take it.”
“Oh, you can, can you?” Kayleigh yawned.
“Sure, we’re great at tag-team. I think so.”
“And just who's going to watch the first two while we’re busy playing tag-team with the second pair?”
“Woman don’t task me, please. And why is it I can never get a straight answer out of you. Dare I suggest, Pregnancy Head?”
“I don’t feel like fighting, Erik.”
“So who says it has to be a fight? Shall I challenge you to a duel with pillows, instead?” He said following her up the stairs, as she sought a nap.
“No. I just want to roll over and sleep, if you don’t mind.” Kayleigh laid on top of the bed, rolled over, her back to him. Erik laid down beside her, cuddling into her, draping a protective arm about her. “I love you,” he murmured. “Get some rest, I’m going to go check on the boys.”
All for now. Thanks for reading.
Congratulations to them on the upcoming birth! Sounds like they were able to find some relaxation and fun in their own home! ❤️
