Here is the link to cycle 1 if you would like to check it out first. Caught on Candid Camera (cycle 1)

Here are some examples.

The first one was not from the last cycle, but shows a good example of a candid gardening scenario. This second shot was gifting your child with a pet.

You’re on Candid Camera! (like the show by the same name that used to be on TV) It is a competition about taking spontaneous shots of your models in everyday situations in-game that gives a candid-look to your photography.

Definition: “A candid photograph is an image captured without creating a posed appearance. This is achieved in many ways, for example: when the subject is in motion, by avoiding prior preparation of the subject ... by not distracting the subject during the process of taking photos.”

This comp won’t be exactly as the definition suggests above, but you will have to catch your Sims in a situation that creates that candid look so the pause option will be your best friend in this competition. It is all about taking candid shots of your models male or female, young or old, in all different angles and body shots, situations and clothing styles of all types, which won’t be specified, that will be left up to your own initiative as long as the background gels with the choice of clothing. With so many more packs and expansions, this can be varied a lot more than the first cycle.

However it is not as easy as it sounds. A good eye will be needed to get the lighting and background right so it produces a good open and honest candid shot that would make a photographer proud but you do not need to specifically “pose” your Sim with created poses. You will also be practising your lighting and shadow used on in-game shots to get that authentic photo shoot look. However, no actual editing will be required since they will be based on in-game shots, but you may like to adjust highlights, shadows, colour etc.

I will be writing up scenarios that you can spontaneously catch your model in, both in the game with backgrounds that represent that candid appeal such as…a Sim doing the laundry for instance or it may be Sims arguing. It will be varied and interesting. A short caption above your shot can be added for clarification, but the image itself should tell the story of the scenario.

It is open for Sims 3 and Sims 4 male and/or female Sims of any age.

There will be a mock round and 8 other rounds with a final at the end, but that may change as things progress. I will allow 6-7 days between rounds but an extension up to 48 hours will be available if asked 24 hours prior to the last due-date. The idea of a mock round is to see where you are all at with your ability to compose a candid shot from your interpretation of the scenario brief, adding brightness, contrast and highlights as you see fit to get the best shot possible in your Sims game.

Examples will not be provided as I want to see your own creativity and interpretations shine through, but the link below gives good examples of candid photography.

** Depending on how many apply, there may be eliminations, or alternatively, if 10 or under apply, then there will be no eliminations, just a final three from accumulated points**

Backgrounds are left to your own creativity to suit each round unless specified by me for a particular round, but must be in-game.

The usual rules apply. Please read thoroughly

*Please support each other and enjoy the competition
*No photo-skinning, face plastering
*No created poses for the scenarios are allowed.
*Drawn hair is acceptable
*Only CC clothing or Maxis-match or standard Maxis
*Accessories can be added either in-game or with CC and google.
*In-game backgrounds only.
*Extensions for up to 48 hours maximum and only if you ask at least 24 before the due date, as I realise RL can get in the way at times.
*Adjustments are allowed. You may adjust lighting, shade, etc., as long as it is not a different shot, and you inform me so I can display the most updated version.
*Please check in after judging and when a new scenario is out.
*hairstyles and colour, eye colour and other genetics all can be your choice of model for each scenario unless otherwise specified.

NB: If at any time you need the rounds earlier for one reason or another please let me know and I'll PM them to you so you can get your entry in. Just send it to me via PM and I will put it up for you around the same time as the other contestants as I know RL can get busy at times.

So as judges it is our responsibility to ensure you understand the brief and to let you know where you can improve for future assignments to avoid elimination (if there are eliminations). It is your responsibility as contestants to read the briefs carefully and ask questions if you are unsure of the meaning of them and try out what the judges suggest. Please ask any of us even if you think the questions are silly or trivial. It is better to ask a silly question to clarify anything, and it's all about helping you improve you images for stories, modelling or anything else you like to do with your Sims.

**If you don't have all the expansions or stuff packs, you can still participate fully in this comp, and are welcome to give it a go, as the scenarios are based on some of the packs and expansions that are available in the game.**
