Death by emotion.

I find it very odd that only Playful, Anger, and Embarassment are the only emotions that cause death. I've heard of such things as being Bored to Death, Sadness seems like a potential way for a sim to die, being too uncomfortable sounds like a way for a sim to die, focusing too much that the sims gets a stroke and dies, and Over Energizing seems like a way for a sim to explode from too much energizing. Of course, some emotions, I can't imagine dying from like excessive Confidence, Inspiration or Flirty. (Maybe too much flirty causes hormonal overload?)

  • If Fear was an emotion we could have "Scared to Death" but I'm expecting they're saving that for a supernatural "Scary" expansion.
  • I think they ruled out the sadness death due to the sensitivity of depression and suicide in real life

Of the three, "Hysterical" is the weirdest one in that is the extreme of a positive emotion "playful"

I recently had this happen... Beware! When a Sim gets Hysterical, it's probably already too late to save him/her.

My Sim keeled over less than a few Sim minutes later. Hit "Hysterical" and they're one chuckle away from death. I "told" her to "calm self down" in the mirror but she disobeyed, choosing to yuck it up some more instead. In all these emotional extremes, they pretty much are out of control.

Fortunately she was spared via a successful plead to the reaper.
