Hi everyone. 🙂 This is the continuation of a story I started back in March on the old Vanilla forum. If you were a regular follower of the 'What Happened In You Game Today' thread, you already know ...
The day that Tre and I have been dreaming of, since before Kya was even conceived, is finally here! We opened our little farm shop. Through all the delays with the permits, Kya’s birth, and everything else that seemed destined to stop us before we started, we made it! We opened the doors of Good Earth Market!
We struggled with a name for it, but we finally figured it out thanks to a name generator. When we saw it we knew that was the one. We also decided to give Tre’s nectars their own name, Cork & Berry.
The shop has been open four days now and things have been great. When you're starting out you always worry, will people come out and support our business? The answer in this case has been a resounding yes!
Tre quickly came up a fun little way to engage with the customers, he sings for them. Most people don't realize what a great voice he has until he shows it off.
The first three days were a wash. We did great business but we had to pay off a couple bills. The biggest bill was for our advertising. We did so well those first three days that we paid the bill off. Today was the first day we made a profit. We earned a little over 600 simoleons. Not bad for just selling produce.
Keeping up with the garden is getting to be a lot for me. Tre has been eager to help so I’ve been mentoring him. Getting hands on lets him pick the fruits and berries he needs to make the best nectars too.
It’s a win-win for us. Plus he's so cute when he gets out his little notepad and jots down things I tell him.
People love his nectars but so far they aren’t the best sellers at the shop. Selling them online and to local businesses nets us the best profits by far. The produce is what's bringing in the crowds right now. The silver lining to all those delays, the produce we’re selling is better quality than it would have been earlier in the year. So I suppose I owe the county commission a big thank you for being so slow.
The last time I sat down and wrote I mentioned that Tre’s parents were thinking about moving to Chestnut Ridge. Tre and I were so worried that we’d done or said something to influence their thinking. While we were visiting we took time to sit down and talk. Their reasons for moving made a lot of sense. The cost of living is much cheaper here. It's quieter. And with the price of real estate they'd actually make money by selling their home in Del Sol Valley. I felt so bad that they were giving up a home that was paid off. When I saw how much their home was set to sell for...yeah I would have sold and moved too!
It's no secret Consuela is dying to do the whole grandmother thing. Tre and I both agree it'll be nice for Kya to have that relationship. We could use the help looking after her too.
The other day Kya passed another big milestone. She said her first word…owskeem. That’s my girl!
No doubt she’s my daughter because she’s as crazy about ice cream as I am. I secretly hoped she wouldn’t be cliché and say mama or dada for her first word. Well alright, mama and dada would have been wonderful. I was hoping my baby girl would be different and she didn't disappoint.
“I can see it all now. You two sitting around, a tub of ice cream between you, two spoons, just gossiping. Probably about me” Tre said with a smile.
“Oh definitely. Plus talks about boys, mean girls, and a million other things. It's totally a girl thing."
