- Glimmer50New SpectatorI use floor plans but I use them as more of a guide because I always wind up making them look a little different on the inside but even though the inside would be right, the outside never looked like the picture which was disappointing. I used to be extremely literal but then I found that if I make it look like the picture on the outside and then fiddle around with the inside, I am much happier because it looks like the home I am trying to build.
- I usually just google houses and go off of a picture of the front and/or side of the house :) that way the interior and back of the house are all up to my design!

I use house plans all the time. When I don't use plans all my houses start to look really similar because I tend to stick with ideas I know work and don't come up with new designs. I also base houses off of my house and my friend's houses.
I do the exact same thing lol i need to see other options so that my neighbourhood doesn't have all the same houses :P - I never have, but it could be interesting to try. I typically build houses that will be easy for me/my sim to have easy access to everything without the cutaway walls, if that makes sense. I like seeing the artwork and stuff on walls.

So you like to zoom in and see the entire background/walls.. ect? lol I was actually taking screenshots of a house I built and I had this kitchen area that I really liked but I couldn't get a good picture when zooming in with the walls up, the room was too small. It kinda made me mad although I don't take a lot of pictures of my sims and tend to be zooming out/in, fast forwarding/pausing.. I'm all over the place.- Yup, my mom is one of those special people that likes HGTV and she has so many books that I borrow design ideas from. I also frequently Google things like "3 bedroom floor plan" or "1 bedroom modern loft". It's pretty nerdy, but it helps a lot. I just find that at times I can build things on my own that look great, but sometimes I get a little ahead of myself and things don't work out so this is my backup plan.
- I always end up with a box for a house if I don't use floor plans!! So yes I do use them or I just copy a house hahaa

thanks! - I have in the past. I haven't just yet in TS4.
- I have for 3 houses that I built in The Sims 3. Like some, I haven't thought about using any for 4. But, I'm open to see if I could try.
*just bookmarked the link you provided* - Yeah. I've done it alot for TS3, especially with my "build teeny tiny houses" kick. I'll use grid paper or make my own grid on some notebook paper, usually while in class.... then I'll go home and build it. The only thing that kept me back from a perfect budget was the lack of knowledge of how much each individual thing costs. (Walls, couches, lights, etc.)
