- I did a few times in Sims 1, but sims 1 was so limiting. Sims 2, did it again a few times, before I started making my own creations. Sims 3, I did it quite a bit, before I started making my own creations. Have not done it at all in Sims 4. My creations are 100% originals.
- I've been wanting to for a while now, but haven't found a decent one to use yet. I can be pretty picky.
- I used to do it all the time when I play TS2. It helped push me to try different things. I also started creating house layouts with graph paper. It was so much fun. I actually pulled them out when I started playing TS4. I found sites online that allowed me to download house plans for free. I have 2 magazines that I got, too.
- Oh, of course. I'm terrible at figuring out floor plans and remembering to add things like linen closets, powder rooms, and laundry rooms, so floor plans are a must. But it's frustrating for me to try and recreate the exterior of a house, because I'm not very good at it and it always winds up looking way different than the original, so I almost always go off the cuff with exteriors. :P
- I want to try to use floor plans while building to teach myself how to build different styles of houses better. But I'm really stuck on trying to convert real people homes to sim homes. I mean, my sims don't need closets or anything like that, but people do. Same with garages.

Closet can be ignored - Garages can be turned into kids play areas or other rooms :)
But then wouldn't the walls be thrown off in other rooms because of the missing closets?
I am a very literal person here, so if it is really, really obvious that it wouldn't mess it up one bit, I'm sorry. I've been accused of that before by my family. But if you have utility closets in a floor plan that cuts into a den area, wouldn't taking out that closet expand the room and mess with the dimensions of that room? Or if it was on the corner and you remove the corner, it would change the shape of the house. Or if you just expanded that room then it would make the room too big....
Serious question here: is it one of those things where I just have to take a leap of faith and try it out before I actually "get it"? After typing that I feel like I may be over thinking things here.- iv thought about it, but I seem to do better with just jumping straight in with pictures and references to examples of the type of house im working on
for example, victorian
research a few interior concepts, look at some pics, and put it together
add your own touch and VOILA! :* "ShutupandSim;12627889" wrote:
You are overthinking things, a bit. Sometimes I have empty space in my houses. An area boxed off so the "flow" works and then if I need it for when the household expands, I have it.
I mean if you are a literal person there is no reason you can't have the things the blue print lists. Add in closets - choose some cute doors and throw some clothing clutter in there or even a dresser or something.
Hmm, you have been very helpful. Thank you! I have some experimenting to do this weekend. o:)- I've not done it yet in TS4 but I used to love following the plans of famous homes (usually of historic interest) and seeing how they worked out in Sim form. I remember having a family live in Monticello fondly.
- Mostly I just build whatever comes to mind. I only remember using like 1 or 2 floor plans while building in the sims 3
