Interlude: The Proposal

The following evening, Kengo invited Janet out on a date, suggesting the experimental restaurant in Oasis Springs. Some suggested the place was run by aliens, or at the very least, alien lovers, and between the menu and the décor, Kengo found it very hard to argue that point. Also, though she didn't own the place, his cousin Cassiopeia Landgraab did work there, and she was half-alien.
In any case, Janet agreed to meet him there. "I've never had the chance to go, and I've always wanted to."
"Great. Then it'll be a first for both of us. See you soon." Kengo was glad he'd chosen the restaurant rather than the diner, hoping the food was as good as it was supposed to be.
They arrived at about the same time and embraced outside, both glad to see each other again after too long.

They must have arrived at a slow time, because they were quickly seated after requesting a table, and barely had time to chat with Janet's uncle, who was also there on a date night, before their food was delivered.
"This is excellent," Kengo said, savoring the flavor of his meal, wanting to be able to recreate it later. "How's yours?"
"It's good," Janet answered. They chatted and flirted easily, and Kengo was glad the restuarant wasn't crowded enough to make her nervous about so many people being arond. Maybe next time he'd offer to cook her a meal at home, if he could convince his family to leave for the evening.

The meal over, Kengo decided the moment was right to move their relationship to the next level. He rose and tugged Janet up from her seat, moving so he'd have room to kneel before her.
"Kengo?" she asked, surprised.
He smiled, bringing out the ring wiht a flourish. "Janet, I love you and want you in my life forever. I want to raise a family with you. Will you please marry me and help run my family's bakery?"
"Oh, Kengo! Yes, of course I will!" Janet held her hand out, letting him slide the ring onto her finger.

Janet jumped into Kengo's arms and he caught her close while she kised him.

Wanting his new fiancee back in his arms, Kengo completely forgot their audience and in his elation at her response, kissed Janet passionately right there in the middle of the restaurant. Fortunately, she didn't seem to mind, and returned the kiss with equal fervor. Also fortunately, Kengo just managed to avoid smacking his head on the edge of the table, which would have been both painful and embarrassing.
"Come home with me and stay the night," Kengo invited, once they came up for air.
"I'd love to," Janet smiled, taking his hand and waiting patiently while he paid the bill.

Back at home, the young adults found Ricky sleeping in the boys' shared room, but his parents' room was empty so Kengo decided they could use it instead, just for this one night. His parents wouldn't mind sleeping in Kengo's new double bed, he was sure.
