Hey Builders advice wanted

Hey there!

I'm a baby builder and new to it (Getting better!) But I was wondering what are other builder's tips and tricks or general advice for improving one's build game? Good starting points, the whole shebang.

Also while you're at share with me your proudest build! The one where you were like "Yes! I've arrived" lol so to speak.
  • Hello there!

You know, besides MOO. What other cheats are useful when building?

bb.showhiddenobjects and bb.showliveeditobjects are pretty standard 2 to remember

other than that I can't really think of cheats that much just hotkeys

Also bb.ignoregameplayunlocksentitlement which allows you the access to locked furniture (career rewards)
  • Remember to use the keys to resize objects - not really a cheat, but works great with things like rugs and flowerpots. Don't use it on mirrors - it glitches out. Another tip is: skill objects! Remember that massive lounge you built and had to scrap because it looked too empty? Try placing a piano in your living room or a microscope in your ultra-modern bar.
@SweetieWright_84 mentioned floor plans - does anyone have any tips for making these? I'm pretty much still at the level of country houses and the occasional Victorian villa type thing. Also, SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME WITH ROOFS - I can make it look nice but am not really any better than that.

I would say, ability to resizing the objects. Some objects can be too small but it looks pretty so you want it bigger & vice versa. The rest is what others have said.
  • @SquirrelTail15 Try searching on YouTube for "Sims 4 Roofs". There's quite a few tutorial videos with lots of good information about placing roofs. :)

Cheers, @xamira99 - this has been helpful. I've never really tried to do a modern build, so I'll try that out. Your Hilltop House is incredible!

    You're welcome & thank you! :)
  • @SquirrelTail15, I really can't tell you an exact way to make a floor plan, but I can say if it's a two-story build, always start with placing stairs first and then build your walls around that.

I find that less square or rectangular houses are easier to plan. When there are pieces jutting off from the main structure it helps indicate where a room should be.

As for room sizes, I usually don't make my bathrooms bigger than 3x4, and usually that's in mansions. My standard bathrooms are usually 2x3 and you can fit everything in it without move objects. When I do bedrooms I usually keep them around 4x5 or 5x6, depending on the size of the house. A lot of my floor plans come from hours of trial and error, to be honest. It just takes lots of practice.

I hope this helps. Without an example of what you're trying to go for, I don't really know what else to tell you. There are a bunch of much better builders out there than I am that could help you more.
