How can we make Teens stand out?

I've seen a few Sim Guru's comment that they'd like to see improvements done to Teens, this thread is to serve as feedback for that purpose.

The only rule we're going by, is we are not changing the existing model. This means they will remain the same height. Re doing all of the existing animations would be too intensive. I'll begin first:

There are two things I think would absolutely MAJORLY help make teens feel more like teens.

1: They need their own voice. Currently they just have a higher pitched version of whatever adult voice you select. Teens going through puberty need voices that crack. Re doing all the voice lines may be intensive, but I genuinely think this is 100% one of the best things they can do for teens. To make things easier, I honestly would be fine with having only 1 or 2 voice types per gender, let me know if you agree.

2: They need their own clothes. We have the tagging system for it. Teens will no longer automatically wear clothing deemed inappropriate for their age. They will also get a bunch of new clothing made specifically for them that only they wear. This is where the beauty of the tagging system comes in though. Do you still want to dress your teen in whatever clothes you want? Just uncheck the -teen- filter just as you would any other outfit category and the whole selection of cas becomes available to you. This way the choice is still there if you want it.

Those are the two Major ideas I had that I think will seriously improve teenagers. The rest of these ideas are minor:

Prom
crushes
genetic acne
obsessions (you could declare obsession for video games, music, food, art etc)
different cliques such as Rebel, Jock, Prep, Nerd, Popular, Geek, inspired from sims 3 university but improved upon.
after school activities
They need to properly show off the fact they are walking bundles of hormones and be desperate for a boyfriend/girlfriend, like most teens are.
Graduation.
College courses when university comes out

That's just a few of mine, share your ideas!

A more generic school dance, as opposed to a prom would be better.
Even better still, would be a school dance that you can rename to whatever you want, and set a dress code, and set the music style, and choose the venue, decorate the way you want it. Choose between a dj or a live band, choose if you want any competitions or awards, or speeches.

    I guess?
As long as it’s something special.

You could make it be whatever you want it to be.
My point is that a school dance doesn't mean the same thing to everyone, so everyone should get the option to make it as they want it to be.

In Latin American and Hispanic cultures, quinceneras were historically originally like “coming out” parties for girls when they are of age.
coming out parties mean something totally different here.

    (Like... debutante parties, sort of?)
Historically, we had debutante balls, not parties for individuals. Usually an event at which to dance, practice your manners, and show off the young ladies of the district. Guys had a role in it, as escorts to the debutantes. They had to be able to dance and practice their manners too.

It’s like a time to celebrate the transition and is a preparation time for womanhood and (historically) was to prepare to become a future wife or something like that. Sometimes it was a religious thing and can take place at church as well.
    Riiiight
What do guys get to do to celebrate their transition?

the birthday girl would dance with her father and stuff.
    Why?
This is really quite different to my culture.
Why wouldn't she dance with her mother? What about her boyfriend? Her brothers and sisters? Her granny?

My family didn’t follow all of the traditions as much, though we still celebrated it as a very important and more involved big, somewhat formal birthday party.

Aussie traditions often involve a yard-glass, and eventually a hangover for your 18th
Sometimes it's a repeat event for your 21st.

About the only big thing that happens to some kids here, is if their folks have money, they might get a car for their 16th. It's your 18th (and/or 21st) that's the big deal.

That's just the culture of Hispanic and Latin America I'm neither but i went to a few of my friends Quince's it reminded me of a wedding reception when the bride dances with her father. why does the bride dance with the father or the mother if the father is not present at a wedding reception? I don't know but it happens.

Also sometimes we celebrate sweet sixteen or celebrate a sixteenth birthday that can go for either a boy or a girl. Just like the Jewish community celebrate a boys coming of age I'm their culture I haven't heard the girls not celebrating they probably do I don't know but that's their culture.

    Hmmm...
I'm beginning to think that the Aussie 'coming of age' doesn't happen until your 18th birthday, cos, well, that's when you become of age. You're not legally an adult here until you're 18, so making a big deal out of a 16th birthday makes little sense.

Actually being 18 is fine we don't have a big blow party until your 21 legal age to drink and go to nightclubs being 18 in america your adult legally but you can't really do anything like go to bars, nightclubs, casinos until your 21. Which I always thought that was stupid especially when I was that age.

    It is a bit silly.
There was a time when you couldn't do most 'adult' things until you were 21 in Australia, in the early 70's the voting age, and the drinking age were both lowered to 18. I think it possibly had somewhat to do with military related stuff. Since then, a few other things have been added to what you can do when you turn 18. It has become a good age to be, you get all these adult responsibilities dumped on you, but at least you're old enough to access a bunch of vices to deal with them!
  • Acne would be a good little point towards the wonders of being a teenager, like have it happen while a character is a teen at random? It shows a teen thing, would be visible too. Also, cracking voices? A moodlet where the person gets embarrassed for speaking too long because their voice cracks?? I don't know, just ideas.
