How much Online Multiplayer is enough?
Ok. So let's suppose there's a The Sims game that also has offline singleplayer game option and content sharing.
So let's say this The Sims game is also getting Online Multiplayer option. How should it look like?
I've put forward four options how it could look like along with all of them and none.
Here's the description of all of them.
Option 1: Each player has a sim. Each player creates a sim to represent them who will have no free will. Player can only change their sim, but can't have multiple sims. If you something in chat, it will appear for some time in the bubble above the sim. Perhaps sims could live together, but each sim will be controlled by different players. The game will observe your sim so when you leave, the sim will do what you usually do.
Option 2: Each player has a household. Each player will have a household of sims they control who have free will (depending on options). Each player can move their household around and aging can be enabled. If another sim gets asked to move in, you'll get a prompt asking for your premission. Sims can visit others' households and throw/be invited to parties. There are a lot of ideas that can be taken from The Sims Mobile...
Option 3: Each player has a neighborhood. Each player will get a neighborhood which they are free to build on and populate. They can play the households only on their neighborhood, but they can visit other neighborhoods anytime they want. A great way to see how a town is going to look like...
Option 4: Each player has a world. Each player will have a world (collection of neighborhoods) on which they can build on and populate. They are free to visit other worlds (perhaps even go vacationing in other players' worlds).
All of the above means players are free to set it. None of them means that Maxis should not spend time and money on it.
So what do you think? Feel free to add if you'd like.
