How to hide/remove this foundation?

I just built this deck at the back of a house I'm working on:

I really, really do not like that foundation being underneath it. I had to add it so the columns would be at the right height and so I could add the spandrels, but I do not like the look of it. I don't know how to remove it while keeping everything else as it should be, and the only way I can see to hide it would be with plants, which would be way too much undergrowth IMO (or an odd place to put a garden). I would be okay with hiding it with tall grass if there is a way to remove it everywhere except under the columns. Converting the area beneath the deck into a patio so the foundation looks like it belongs there does not seem like a good idea either, since the interior design of the house is not suitable for adding a back door on the first floor.

Any ideas on what can be done with this?

So we'll always have to build the accompanying houses without a foundation rise so that any vehicles could get into a garage without also climbing steps?

Is that a problem? Are you implying there is something wrong with my garage?

  • You can't adjust foundation for individual rooms. Any foundation height you apply, applies across the lot. You can remove a specific room (or flat, which is what it looks like you used at ground level there), but as you note, it will change the height of your columns, and you will lose your spandrels. Now what you may be able to do as a work around for the columns is find an object with a column like look to it, and use MOO to place it. It will likely extend up into your 2nd level deck, so it's a matter of whether you can make that work (by covering the spot with décor, etc.). Here's an example where I used the Wolf Pitts TruWood Lamp Essentials object as a column:

  • I realise that this thread is older but I just came across it and wanted to say thank you so much BryonyRae! I used this idea and it works a treat. I shall be doing this now until EA fixes the mess that is colums. <3 <3 <3

From what I can tell by your pic - just move the foundation slider all the way down. If you don't like what happens you can always reverse the action with the undo arrow at the top of your screen. My best guess is that all it will do besides removing the foundation is kick out your stairs which are easy to replace.

I can't just remove the foundation entirely. I should mention it's necessary for the front porch (which is just raised up slightly like a patio rather than a proper porch). I probably should have included that in the first post. Anyway, I only want to remove the foundation where it appears behind the house.
  • If the issue is only the back then go to that level and take away the fundation. If you click on it, it should highlight as a room and you should be able to take it away without taking away anything else. Otherwise take it all away and replace it. Cuz i assume it all was a room before or? Id show you if i wasnt on my tablet, my explanation prob doesnt make sense haha

It can be highlighted as a room, but how do I take away the foundation for just that "room"? I can only figure out how to adjust it for the entire house.
  • What you can do is to make the main house as one room, the patio/fundation as another room. You can do that by taking the floor tool, placing it in the house (first level) and adjust it to the house. Then the oatio is another room. Or you adjust the fundation till its gone.
  • I'm still not understanding how to adjust foundation for individual rooms instead of the whole building...
