I would love the SKILL JOURNAL back! Who is with me?

Sims 3 had an in depth skill journal with varying challenges oriented to each skill to work towards! Sims 4 would really benefit from a feature like this returning. While they are at it they can make the Collections Journal more front and center and improve it to make collecting even more fun. We need a "Free Time" pack that gives an update for the base game to add the skill journal and various goals to work towards concerning skills and so forth. It would add such a layer of depth and challenge to work towards! Any thoughts or opinions on this???

One thing I liked about the skill journal, and relied upon it for, was tracking the titles of my sims' written books. My writers tend to be prolific, and I like to have a record in-game. The Sims 3 skill journal kept one for me.

I don't miss it as much as some features (Create a Style, paintable ceilings, color wheel) but it would be nice to have it back.

I completely forgot how it also tracked the book titles. Such a fantastic feature. I used it all the time and now I really wish we had it back
  • A friend and I were just talking about how we really liked the skill challenges. I liked them and would love for them to return.

  • I completely forgot about that feature. I only ever remember completing the cooking one. I think it would be a nice addition to TS4. As it is now, once sims have maxed out a skill, there's really nothing else to do but to move onto another skill.

I'm playing the Life and Death challenge, and my sim has maxed out the handiness skill through the woodworking table. This would give me something else to strive for with her. She's already completed her aspiration as well, all before she had the 2nd generation.

This is why I really like the skill journal too. The record keeping.
My current sim is a novelist and the only time I see which books he has written is whenever I get a royalties notification. It's an extensive list of literature and unless I'm missing something there's no other place offering me an overview of what he's done.

Plus reaching the top of a skill level is not very interesting if there's indeed little to do beyond that initial goal. To me it doesn't feel like my sim a true expert in the thing they're good at. Being able to commit to various skill challenges is that extra reward some players needs. It's such a game booster.

I absolutely love that feature in Sims 3 and I want it in Sims 4.

  • Ooh, I was about to suggest this! I loved the skill challenges in the journal! Every skill had a set of challenges and rewards. Here is the challenges and rewards for Handiness from Sims 3 for example:

    Handiness

    Electrician
Electricians have repaired at least 10 electrical objects. The experience gained means they will never be electrocuted by an electrical object again.

    Plumber
Plumbers have repaired at least 10 plumbing objects. They are so good at repairs that plumbing objects repaired by them never break again.

    Tinkerer
Tinkerers have finished at least 10 unique upgrades on household items. Installing the "Unbreakable" upgrade on multiple objects only counts as one unique upgrade, so it helps to experiment with different upgrade options! Tinkerers never fail when upgrading objects.

  • I'd like to see them make a return. This would have been a good suggestion for the 411-thread.

Yes! It's a place to show learned recipes. It's a place to show how many books of certain genres have your sim written! A good place to keep the skill-related stats.

You guys also reminded me of how perfect the skill journal was for keeping track of stuff too! Not just the challenges. Yes I hope they have plans for something like this returning to Sims 4!
