  • I would suggest you make a youtube channel, based on the sims. You'll need an editing software, a microphone, and something to record the gameplay. If you're like me and have a windows 10 with the XBox Live built into your system, then you automatically have a built in game recorded that works pretty well. All you have to do is press the window key and G, and it'll pop up.
I'm getting my microphone in the mail today, so I can't really give you insight to what kind of microphone you should get, but I do suggest starting off simple, don't invest too much into it, just incase some where down the line you don't feel like doing it anymore and such. What I did was I went onto amazon, and searched up cheap microphones for recording. The editing software I used to use was windows live movie maker, which is free and usually comes with your computer, but I've gotten a new one (that's also free) called Reslove.
Now, if you do order a microphone online, chances are it's gonna take a little while to come in, in this time you can make your channel art (youtube banner) and a profile picture to represent yourself. I already had mine picked out, so what I did while I waited for my mic to come in is scheduled recordings and wrote down challenges to do, I also made a twitter in the mean time, and even came up for the description for my videos. I hope I helped ! :)
  • I have seen several microphones on Amazon for around $20-$30, which doesn't seem too expensive. Does anyone know what the minimum computer specs for recording should be? I know my computer doesn't meet them, but I'd hate to have to buy a new computer just for a hobby. I am hoping there is a way I can just update my current computer instead.
  • I only have a pc and also I have windows 10. Just curious where can I plug in a miccohphone? Also do I need a video camera or could I use my camera that takes both photos and videos?
  • I downloaded OBS. It's a program that records your screen while you play. If you wanted to record your face you'd need a camera, but a digital camera should work fine.
  • Oh, wait. Windows 10 has its own recording program. You can find it in settings.
  • Are you asking about making Sims or gaming videos? Or like vlog/lifestyle/etc. types of videos?

For gaming videos, I use OBS , Audacity , a Blue Yeti Microphone, GIMP , and Davinci Resolve .

For other types of videos, any camera that records video should work fine as long as it has decent resolution settings. A lot of people just start out using their phones or the camera on their laptop. You'll just need to familiarize yourself with the camera's settings and the SD card size because certain cameras will only record for a certain amount of time and videos will use more space on your card. So you'll need to test to see how long you can record and how much you can record before you have to take a break in the recording or move the files to your computer. For these types of videos you would also still need a photo editor and a video editor. I use Davinci Resolve. It's free. It's great. I used Windows Movie Maker in the beginning, and that's an option if you have a windows computer but you can do more with a downloaded or purchased software.

Some other useful tools would be fonts and music. You can find tons of non-copyrighted music on youtube. Just be sure to check the descriptions and make sure it is copyright free, in case you ever plan on monetizing your channel. Most music channels will have credits that you can copy and paste into your video description when you use their songs. For fonts, I always get mine from Dafont. They have a lot of different options to choose from if you plan on adding text to your thumbnails. It's not a requirement, but just in case you wanted to try it.

For plugging in your microphone, depending on the microphone there will either be a USB that you can just plug into the USB port of your computer . Or there will be a plug that goes into a round hole . The hole will typically have a microphone icon next to it on the computer.

Hopefully something in this is helpful to you. I apologize. I do tend to talk too much about irrelevant stuff when explaining things. o.o
  • I actually don't use an editing software for the videos, just Photoshop for Layout and thumbnails. I have a decent Mic I got from a friend of mine who records and streams and has a wicked set up, but he has been doing it for years and became Partner. I also use x-split. I stream on Twitch and put my recordings on Youtube. My friend was using x-split as well but moved to OBS.

You definitely don't need to have the best or fanciest stuff to record or stream. I don't use a webcam at the moment. Pick something you enjoy and have fun with it. That is the main thing as starting out is hard and may seem like you're getting nowhere. Everything else will come in time.
