Idea on how to fix emotions/personalities: Hybrid Emotions (Long List)

I know I'm not the only who wants a personality overhaul, as much as I would like one, I have to admit I'm pretty sure traits and emotions will always remain the dominant personality system in the game. I've been pondering ideas on what can be done in the game to make personalities and emotions better while thinking within the systems that already exist. I eventually came up with an idea on Hybrid Emotions. I don't think I'm the first to think of this, but here's my take on it.

Since the personality system right now in Sims 4 is Traits + Moodlettes = Emotions = Behaviour, I think a great way to expand on how sims behave is too add an entire spectrum of emotions, AKA hybrid emotions, the ability for Sims to feel two emotions at once. The Sims traits influence the moodlettes they get which influences the emotions they feel.

Imagine:
Confident/Energized
Confident/Flirty
Confident/Focused
Confident/Inspired
Confident/Playful
Confident/Angry
Confident/Dazed
Energized/Flirty
Energized/Focused
Energized/Inspired
Energized/Playful
Energized/Angry
Energized/Bored
Energized/Dazed
Energized/Sad
Flirty/Focused
Flirty/Inspired
Flirty/Playful
Flirty/Angry
Flirty/Bored
Flirty/Dazed
Flirty/Sad
Focused/Inspired
Focused/Playful
Focused/Angry
Focused/Bored
Focused/Dazed
Focused/Sad
Inspired/Playful
Inspired/Angry
Inspired/Bored
Inspired/Dazed
Inspired/Sad
Playful/Angry
Playful/Bored
Playful/Dazed
Playful/Embarrassed
Playful/Sad
Angry/Bored
Angry/Dazed
Angry/Embarrassed
Angry/Sad
Angry/Tense
Angry/Uncomfortable
Bored/Dazed
Bored/Sad
Dazed/Embarrassed
Dazed/Sad
Dazed/Tense
Dazed/Uncomfortable
Embarrassed/Sad
Embarrassed/Tense
Embarrassed/Uncomfortable
Sad/Tense
Sad/Uncomfortable
Tense/Uncomfortable

All those on top of the existing emotions in game.

Each hybrid emotion would have it's own set of idle animations. Each emotion would have its own set of Whims. Each emotion would influence how your sims behave, what they do, how they socialize and how they respond to socialization. I know this would be a huge task, but I truly believe that something like this could change everything.

Example, Sims are witnessing a death of a loved one:

- Sim A is Sad and Inspired because they have the Creative trait. Being Sad and Inspired will make them want to do creative things during their period of being sad, for creative skills they already have they will gravitate towards those.
- Sim B is Sad and Angry because they have the Bro trait. Being Sad and Angry will make them more confrontational with others during their period of being sad. Being a Bro will make them want to hang out with their Bro friends during their period of being sad.
- Sim C is Sad and Playful because they have the Goofball trait. Being Sad and Playful will make them more likely to resort to humour during their period of being sad.
- Sim D is Sad and Focused because they have the Geek trait. Being Sad and Focused will make them want to do thinking skill building activities during their period of being sad. Being a Geek will make them want to collect things or play video games during their period of being sad.

This is probably an unrealistic wish to have for the Sims 4, but this is just my two cents on how emotions and personalities can be improved upon with the systems we already have, so I'm just throwing it out there.

  • None of the examples you mentioned need hybrid emotions to be done.

What you're looking for is for Traits and Emotions to be integrated and change sim Autonomy together. This can be done with Improved traits, no need for new, Hybrid emotions.
