They are temporary, and they don't have any cool powers or anything, just different needs and funny idles. But the time period is something like 5-7 simdays which is actually quite a while in this game. And you can always carry on eating forbidden fruits to become a plantsim over and over again. Saskia collected a few from the tree. :)
