Local Writers

Why aren’t sims able to purchase the works of local writers?

For example, Mortimer Goth has written numerous books and my other sims aren’t able to order any of his works from the computer or bookshelf.

I think it would be nice if some of the local sims could support the local writers and purchase some of their published works.

It would be nice, too, if the author's family could have a copy, too.

You can actually create a copy of the book by placing it in the world. It's quite expensive and you can't publish the copies but I like to have 4 or 5 of them just to be able to keep one in a bookshelf and give the others to friends or family members

I know I would love for other sims to read a book my sim published and also get a rating/review good or bad. Best Seller will get a lump sum of money and do book signings.
  • I believe, and this is just me speculating, that the reason they didn’t do with TS4 what they did with TS3 writers is because if sims lived an incredibly long time and wrote a lot of books, it REALLY bogged down the game. When little things like that accumulate it becomes very difficult to load a household. Like the simmer said above, you can create copies of books your author writes by placing the original on the lot somewhere and making copies (for a fee), and then taking them to the local library if you so choose. I haven’t actually tested that last part yet, but I get what you’re going for. I wish they had included this feature as well.
  • OH! I thought of something else.

What if local writers could host book signings at the library?

Maybe local writers could donated free books and money to the library and that would grant them a happy moodlet?

Oh and local writers could read to young child sims at library as well if they write children’s books!

And to segway into the Artist career, local artists can host galas and art shows at the actual museum.

Imo this would make for fun/realistic gameplay, what do you guys think?

    Yes, that would be great.
Then I don't have to make the book store, have writers copy the book, and then give them to the store's owner so he/she can sell it.

    Wait, what?!

    How do you make bookstores??

Sorry for keeping you waiting for long. Busy making a video...
I follow these steps while making a bookstore:
    1. Build a retail store and have a sim own it (usually rich).
    2. When writers write a book, they'll copy it three times. The original gets published, the first copy goes to a library and the second copy will be kept by the writer.
    3. The third copy is given to the bookstore's owner. Seasons is a good expansion pack here as sims can give the book as a gift and they will never reject gifts (even when they hate each other).
    4. Switch to book store's owner's household, where I go to their store and put the book for sale.
If anyone buys the book, there's no need to write another one.

Copying books may decrease the quality and price. You can give the bookstore owner the original and have your writer sim buy it and then publish it. That also means any sim who buys the book can publish it and earn royalities from it.
