He isn't even thinking about her, really, maybe he thinks he is, but if he truly was and truly cared then he would have had a conversation with her about her expectations, instead of just leaving her on read. Without closure it can be impossible to let somebody go, and that's the situation he's putting her in now. Unfortunately teenagers - especially Irish teenagers - are absolutely dreadful at effective communication.
