Kai Wynn is the quintessential jock; popular, golden, and on the fast track to a full basketball scholarship at a top University. And straight? Girls want to date him and guys want to be him, but most days Kai wants to be anything other than what he is: a fraud.
Just when Kai thinks he can't take another moment pretending, his overbearing father finds out he's gay and kicks him out of the house during his Junior year. Kai finds himself sleeping in his truck and washing up in the school gym. Convinced that fate has cursed him, by chance Kai meets Mateo Barajas and everything changes.
For the first time Kai can be himself, at least in the presence of Mateo, but in school he's still wearing the shell of the straight, golden boy. Kai's more broken than he cares to admit, and even though Mateo promises to always be there to help put things together, Kai's hang-ups are beginning to drag him down.
As their budding relationship develops into something more intimate, the young men stumble under the pressure of society and secrets. Kai has denied who he was nearly all his life, but continuing to do so will cost him everything he has, and everything that could be.
This time its Kai's turn to be the one to look after Mateo before it's too late.
