Max had become so skilled at making viruses and hacking into systems that he embraced yet another trait.

"Daddy, he looks like the vampire ghost man who lives in our house!"

(And Max made the most perfect expression :D Perhaps he does feel a little guilty about not inviting Vlad inside to chat that day...)

Indeed, as witnessed by the daily image, Vlad was often a present member in the household and did more childrearing than Max had ever done.

And for being such a terrible sim, Max's family really is good to him. Luna and Jacques visit especially often, and the little ones truly enjoy the warm embrace of a cherished family member, as I'm sure only hugging cold metal gears can sometimes take its toll on a child, no matter how kind their robotic caregiver may be.
