My hopes for the medieval build kit

We know we're getting a medieval build kit, and while kits are small, this does have some potential if done right. A kit isn't big, so we're likely not getting a lot of objects, but I hope the ones we do get are well chosen. So here are my hopes for the kit:

  • Functional objects that are off the grid (fireplace/stove combo, working water well, a sink that looks just like a bowl that you can put on dressers/counters/side tables, some medieval toys for kids)
  • Functional off the grid lighting (also for walls and ceilings)
  • That any windows, doors and walls match what is already medieval looking in game so that it's easy to combine and useful also for later builds
  • That walls have a matching foundation
  • That stairs and floors match

This would be a chance to add things that might make a difference in game play, and I do believe a lot could be added using already existing animations. An old fashioned outhouse toilet, off the grid lighting and a stove that looks like it's a fireplace could all use the animations already in game, same for more medieval looking toys. However, even though that is true, I also believe we'll mostly get build mode objects. I at least hope they make them match what we already have in game.
  • @83bienchen I think they could do a sink that looks like a basin and pitcher with the current animations, also an off the grid refrigerator that looks like a pantry. Many sorts of medieval toys could work as reskins. I agree with you that some of the suggestions here are unlikely to happen in a kit. A stove that looks like a fire place would be strange without new animations. I don't think we have anything comparable to a draw bridge.

That is exactly what I would aim for if I was in charge. There is so much that could be done with proper reskins for those who like decade challenges and such. I'm just not so sure that we'll get that.

For the stove they could reskin a cauldron and a grill. A functional medieval sink, bathtub and fridge reskin also shouldn't be too much of a problem. A more medieval looking cross stich basket would be great as well. A sword fighting spot reskin would be nice and a more worn off tea pot set and diary. Some of these should probably be decorative only if you don't own the respective stuff so that it does not rip too much content from previous pack.

Honestly, I think a decades pack could easily fill an EP.
  • Since we got a new vanity table in the last Kit I would love to see a Medieval Castle vanity table!

My impression from the early concept art they showed us was that this would be more about medieval castle life, than medieval life in general. If we get a toilet (a big if), I would expect a stone garderobe rather than a wooden outhouse. Maybe they could base it off of the toilet stalls in DU and enclose it in a stone wall so that it's not sharing a space with other bathroom features, which it would not have done in those days. It could come with a trough of hay on the side so the sims can wipe themselves.

I would love a quill and parchment reskin of the diary. For Simlit, you could use it in screen shots to pretend that the person is writing an important document or missive. It could still build writing and creativity for people who don't own Parenthood, although you would need Parenthood for the character value aspect. I personally don't have a problem with their making a minor feature (e.g. vending stalls, dance floors) available in multiple packs. The diary is just one small part of Parenthood, it's not a big deal if they reintroduced it.

Well, there will certainly not be any items with new animations or tuning, so I second OP's wish for more working of the grid lamps.
But I'm afraid it might be restricted to build mode objects (as opposed to former buy mode in precious iterations): wallpaper, floor, windows, doors, decorative roof items and such.

You are probably right. What I really want is a Game Pack or a Stuff Pack. I can dream for a little bit at least.
