New career ideas

The main one I have, which I've seen mentioned elsewhere, is a music career more reminiscent of Sims 3. I still sometimes send my Sim into the entertainer career, but it feels very lacklustre to me. Either with a Musician track (focusing on singing and instrument skills) or a Producer track (focus on logic and the media production skill). Or a Solo Star track (focusing on singing skill, popularity, agency relations, perhaps with an option of choosing your agency like in the acting career) or a Frontman track (focus on instrument skill, band member relations, perhaps with an option of selecting your band members like you hire staff, with their skills improving alongside, or an option of kicking them and selecting higher skilled ones).

For the second option (As the first one is nicely fleshed out thanks to Sims 3) it could have stages like:

Solo Act:
- Back-up singer
- Featured artist
- Pop sensation

Frontman: (This is not a reflection on what I think of the instrument, just.. literally how close they tend to be to the front)
- Drummer
- Lead Guitar
- Rock star

Would be a nice way of introducing drums and bass guitars *cough*.

This could either be a work-at-home option, where you have tasks such as raising skills, interacting with band mates, or producing albums. Or a gig-selector type like the acting career. Where you go to a studio and produce albums and practice, with some random tasks of promotion being holding fan meet & greets, then you have random events of holding a concert (this could be rabbit-holed to save time, money and system requirements). It would be nice to see the career venue either evolving depending on your career-level, or being able to be customised somewhat by the player. The amount of money is dependant on the "quality of the album/concert" (i.e how many work-related tasks you complete).

Finally, a fame opt-in/out option could be nice for promotion tasks/random events/concert success (for those who don't have GF or some who don't like the fame system).

Any suggestions/amendments to the above? Perhaps suggestions I've made that just simply wouldn't work in Sims, or could be improved?

What ideas do you have for careers? They play such an important aspect of the game after all. Another thing I'd like is more part-time job options, perhaps even with varying shift patterns.

could we re-fix police career and medical career so there are "night shifts"?

Technically you can have nurses if you promote them to nurse then freeze the career. The tasks are slightly different at this level to reflect that I think
  • I would love hairdresser or beauty salon. It would give the devs a legitimate reason to introduce painted nails and eyelashes. The mechanic could work a lot like the makeup person in get famous but when they sit in your chair you go into the cas closeup and can change their hair and makeup. It would be good if they then walked around the game wearing the hair you gave them. So many premades have awful hair.

I definitely miss TS3's Psychic career, especially the scam artist branch!!
I also look forward to more freelancer careers. I think any skill or career could be turned into a freelancer job. You could get gigs as a baker, a criminal, a comedian!!!
  • I just really NEED a proper Singer career! I made Avril Lavigne in the game and would love for her to be able to get Famous by singing, as I originally wanted, until I found out theres no singing. D: I need new songs, singing animations, for sad/emotional songs and for fast/energized songs. And slow dancing!! For those romantic slow songs. Ah please please, and a lawyer would be fun too.
  • I’ve always been slightly disappointed that there wasn’t a singer career. I’m really missing the old ability to create bands and play gigs from ts3. More options for animal-handling careers would have been a nice addition to cats and dogs too. I’d love some more variety in career choices!
  • I'd like both a lawyer and a teacher career. Maybe some manual labor careers like repair person. I like having very basic options for my basic sims.
  • yes! the part-time jobs update and recent pack careers are great but we definitely need more. my most wanted careers = teacher, fortune teller, dancer, hotelier (with accompanying hotels of course), part-time bookstore clerk, part-time grocery store clerk. and i agree we need freelance band/musician gigs and a musician/singer career track in a proper music pack.
