Assignment 3 - Searching for Murbil Kilmir
Much words.
My pic is a bit lazy. But hey! It illustrates the horrible breakfast.
Trivia: The breakfast is based on real medieval portable peasant food. A sort pf instant gruel, and useful way of dealing with stale bread. It's also what is believed to be the food of the builders of the pyramids in Egypt. And in the case of the medieval version, the bread was likely to contain more bean or pea flour than grain, hence may be one of the origins of the pease porridge rhyme.

The Very Secret Diary of Seth Magnus
Day 2 in the village of Wolfwater.
The floors of peasant cottages are not good for sleeping on. I'm not sure if my bedroll has lumps in it, or the floor is really that uneven. I was awoken by the sounds of village life, though the people seem quieter here than in most villages, they do still make some noise.
Some of the locals had gathered in the centre of the village, trading goods for the day. The trade involved more barter than coin, and the goods were in a poor state. Withered carrots, sprouting onions, wrinkled apples, and pears that were black in places. It's as though the tension and distrust has turned the food bad.
The villagers seemed unhappy that we are still here, but not so unhappy that they weren't willing to trade some of their goods for a few coppers. Unfortunately for us, the ale was stale, flat and more, than a little bitter. The bread rolls were dry and hard. Even breaking them up, and soaking them in the ale did little to improve their texture. They became chewy, so very chewy, it was a chore to eat this peasant pottage.
Markus gave the pendant to Ellawyn to study, before swearing that he had seen some figures in the trees, and was going to investigate. He took one of the bread rolls with him, perhaps to use as a weapon.
Over our pitiful breakfast, Ellawyn and I discussed the pendant and what it represents. She can see a gold glow around it, marking it as a holy symbol. She is certain that it belongs to one of the Dragon Cults.
The illustrations in the book, and the markings on the pendant offer further clues. The translation of one in particular means “Harvest”
At the mention of the word, Katia, who was slowly chewing through a bowl the of horrid peasant gruel, looked up, and asked, “Did you say harvest?”
“I met an old, weathered orc this morning, who made mention of The Harvest”
She went on to repeat the rest of his ramblings.
T'is The Harvest. Sowing the new crop. The night with three moons in the sky and darkness below. If you know what is good for you, begone before it comes for you too.
At those words, Ellawyn's face lit up, but not with joy. “That's what it is! It's tied to the underworld of Mhybor!”
Katia also mentioned that Gnaabak was gone, slipped away in the night. We all feel suspicious about this news.
I returned to the book, and the runes that matched those on the pendant. There was more information to be had, and the book held it. At lest, in part.
An alignment of moons, darkness and Harvest all stood out clearly. The text turned into florid riddles, innocent souls taken, and turned into living eyes of Belashyra. It didn't make much sense at first.
But on thinking, Belashyra is the Lord of the Providence Eye. The pendant is the Providence Eye, which is also the symbol of this Cult of Dragon worshippers, and one of the many powers Myhbor.
The darkness below must refer to Myhbor, being in the underworld.
Being branded with the eye, must mark the souls taken, the ones turned into the living eyes of Belashyra. I explain this to the others. But the moons, I lamented about. We didn't know enough about them, nor when the alignment would occur.
Teagan wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, after finishing off a third bowl of the peasant slop. How anyone could consume more than one was a miracle.
He said he would try to find this orc, and get more information.
Beargrim is not heartened by what we have discovered. “The providence lord has arisen once again,” he sighed. This seems to indicate that it has happened before, I need to ask Beargrim more about what he knows.
“I have hidden my son where he cannot wonder. I fear I will need to keep him locked away until you can put a stop to this bloodshed. I have gold!”
The poor man is desperate.
“Please find the source and do whatever it takes to end this! Please find a way to reverse this curse on my people!!”
We assured him that his pleas were not falling on deaf ears.
Darius and Katia went into the forest to do some further investigating, something about animals and blood trails.
Ellawyn, Safiya and I took the advantage of cottage being more quiet, to focus on our meditation, check our spell components and scrolls, and prepare ourselves for what might come.
We are sitting here packed, ready and waiting for the others to return.
