It was going to be a mid-October launch, but have decided to launch now as it may take some time for people to decide to join and to get judges etc sorted.
1. Mhybor’s Harvest (adapted loosely from a Dungeons and Dragons module)
A writing, roleplay and modelling competition for keen fantasy fans and writers. I’ve tried to cater to a range of people with the mix of class characters I’ve chosen, so I hope you find it interesting! It's mainly about the writing, so if you are a keen writer then this will be ideal for you.
It’s the first time I’ve even attempted to do this in a competition context, so I welcome any feedback or suggestions as we go along. Whether the information is too much, or doesn't give you enough room for your own creative writing, these are the sort of things I’ll need feedback about.
The length and timing of this competition will depend on participation and how the story evolves. I will be trusting you as players, and my judges, to help me review this as it goes along, but as a ball park figure I’d be giving between 10-14 days to complete each round.
I will provide some of the backgrounds for certain rounds as the shots will sometimes need to be taken in a specific location, such as a cave, or dungeon, but I will inform people of that as we go along.
2. The Game I will be giving an introduction for your short narratives. Each character should respond in their short story as their particular class would, and role play their character as part of their application and future rounds. First person Point Of View would be great, but third person POV is okay too depending on your writing style.
Each round I will create a scenario that you can expand on through your character’s role in your writing, accompanied by the continuity of the story. I will have a short sentence in each round for each class character, giving them a scaffold sentence to their story. How you choose to use that in your writing is up to you. In other words, you are not required to use the exact sentence, but it is a guideline you will need to write to, in order to keep the story-line consistent. Dialogue is welcome.
Each round will delve deeper into and continue the story. This will be how the rounds are set up. The short introduction I do for each assignment will hopefully kick-start your inspiration for your writing and keep it relatively consistent with the other players. I will adjust each future assignment to incorporate all individual write ups. It will be exciting to see where each round takes us!
Here is a tag list of Sims 3 and 4. I wanted to give everyone an opportunity to check this out. If you would like your name removed or added please let me know as I know some of you are not into writing comps.
Still not showing, @Bugsie2016 it just says, "Discover PIXABAY Free Images no hotlinking" but no picture as such.
I have made an arrangement of most of the ones I have below and you can choose which one you like, then I'll PM it to you and anyone else that wants one. They are all smaller obviously here in order to get them together, but the originals that I'll PM to anyone that wants them, will be much bigger. So if anyone wants one let me know.
Click on it to enlarge them to get a better look and let me know which number you all would like if you haven't already got one.
@Bugsie2016 Oh good, I'm so happy it helped. You don't have to make the orc, that is your own choice, but it will help you with bonus points, if you do decide to make others and include them in your shots.
Okay, @Bugsie2016 can't wait to see them and your writing. I'm off to bed now, it's nearly midnight here, but I'll check in the morning for any of the village backgrounds that you want. You'll have a better idea once you've made your characters as to which one will work for you the best.
~ The patch threw me, but I have found that most of the costumes/outfits are not glitched! ~ And I have been busy helping other people get their games going again! So been a bit caught up! ;) ~ I am using No, 5 for my Background, but if it ends up with a Fluffy pink Kitten in it, Sorry! I am obsessed! <3 o:) <3
The long journey to Wolfwater was horrendous and I am very much glad that it is over. I may be a rogue, but I am only human and do appreciate my sleep as much as any other person. The town of Wolfwater is a strange one, they say it is immersed in deep history or well, something like that. I did not pay that much attention when Beargrim was telling us about it. My parents would have been ashamed of my impertinence but, they are longer here to witness it and so, will never know.
We look around the town and find nothing unusual in clear sight. But, soon enough - after a few minutes of wandering aimlessly around the town, looking for signs of Murbil Kilmir - we are approached by what appears to be a half-orc. He does not look too happy to see us here.
"Strangers, be gone with you. We do not accept your kind and have nothing to offer you but the path that leads out of here."
I look him up and down before stepping forward from my companions, "You have no Inn?"
He glares suspiciously at us, his teeth grinding, "No Inn, no tavern and no time for you."
I scowl, he is starting to frustrate me with his attitude, "You have a name, young sir." I know he is anything but young. I add it purely for the look he gives me afterwards, as if confused by my words or the thought that I think he is that young. The "Sir" I add purely for the sake of manners. I may now steal for a living but I have not forgotten my origins, even in these circumstances.
He pushes a strand of graying hair behind his ear,"Gnaabak Orgoth, reeve of Wolfwater. I would ask your name but I really have no more time for you."
He begins to walk back up the path to what appears to be his cottage, when I ask him a question. "Wait. Do you know where we could find Murbil Kilmir? A man by the name of Beargrim sent us here to find her."
"Murbil? Her family's cottage is over there. But, stranger, you will not find here there. She recently left."
I look back at my companions, "Well, I guess this was a waste of a journey."
The half-orc appears to realise for the first time how far we have come because he adds, "You may stay, if you wish, in Murbil's cottage but you must be gone by tomorrow morning, before anyone spots you."
He carries on his journey up the path and we walk along the long road to the cottage. We talk among our group as very few villagers are around and even fewer wish to speak with us and give up information.
"So, you must be Frieda. Right?"
"Yes, I am Frieda. You must be Markus if I am correct. So, Markus. Do you also think that the man back there, Gnaabak, was not telling us everything he knows?" I think about her words for a minute. Maybe she is on to something. I smile, "Maybe, but I do not know if we will ever find out."
Soon we arrive at the cottage barriers and Katia starts looking around. I enter the cottage through the weathered door. I walk towards the chest of drawers in the corner but I stop when I nearly step on something. I look down and see nothing but dirt, so kneel down on the floor and uncover a necklace.
After a careful examination, I discover the chain is snapped which is unusual as it is made from leather. It would not normally break that easily. The pendant is made of a strands of a weird type of glass that I am not familiar with, they are wrapped around what looks like an old mummified eye. I pocket it, making a note to ask one of my fellow companions if they know anything.
In the chest of drawers I find some coins and pocket these, Murbil surely does not need them now, she left. There is a sound of crashing and I look over at my barbarian friend, Teagan. He has knocked down a tome when he was throwing his weight around. He is grumbling that it "wasn't him"and that he just wants something to eat.
Fortunately for us, he soon finds something in one of the cupboards and sits down at the worn table to eat and therefore stops the moaning. I walk outside and look up at the sky. It is getting dark, so we all retreat indoors as we need to be gone by morning.
