It was going to be a mid-October launch, but have decided to launch now as it may take some time for people to decide to join and to get judges etc sorted.
1. Mhybor’s Harvest (adapted loosely from a Dungeons and Dragons module)
A writing, roleplay and modelling competition for keen fantasy fans and writers. I’ve tried to cater to a range of people with the mix of class characters I’ve chosen, so I hope you find it interesting! It's mainly about the writing, so if you are a keen writer then this will be ideal for you.
It’s the first time I’ve even attempted to do this in a competition context, so I welcome any feedback or suggestions as we go along. Whether the information is too much, or doesn't give you enough room for your own creative writing, these are the sort of things I’ll need feedback about.
The length and timing of this competition will depend on participation and how the story evolves. I will be trusting you as players, and my judges, to help me review this as it goes along, but as a ball park figure I’d be giving between 10-14 days to complete each round.
I will provide some of the backgrounds for certain rounds as the shots will sometimes need to be taken in a specific location, such as a cave, or dungeon, but I will inform people of that as we go along.
2. The Game I will be giving an introduction for your short narratives. Each character should respond in their short story as their particular class would, and role play their character as part of their application and future rounds. First person Point Of View would be great, but third person POV is okay too depending on your writing style.
Each round I will create a scenario that you can expand on through your character’s role in your writing, accompanied by the continuity of the story. I will have a short sentence in each round for each class character, giving them a scaffold sentence to their story. How you choose to use that in your writing is up to you. In other words, you are not required to use the exact sentence, but it is a guideline you will need to write to, in order to keep the story-line consistent. Dialogue is welcome.
Each round will delve deeper into and continue the story. This will be how the rounds are set up. The short introduction I do for each assignment will hopefully kick-start your inspiration for your writing and keep it relatively consistent with the other players. I will adjust each future assignment to incorporate all individual write ups. It will be exciting to see where each round takes us!
Here is a tag list of Sims 3 and 4. I wanted to give everyone an opportunity to check this out. If you would like your name removed or added please let me know as I know some of you are not into writing comps.
I am soo glad you gave me an outline 'cause i'm writing and released an entire plotline for my other story sprung from one tiny idea I had one day. You should not let me have that much creative freedom. Anyway, I'm going to halt my writing and get to editing this.
@Jendowoz0612 I need a break before I stay up until 2am again. (Which isn't that long now as it's currently nearly 10pm. No idea where the time went?! )
Wowwwww REALLY LOVED Your Story -- Amazing Writing!!!! @sawdust <3 <3 :o :o :o My Teagan Poor Guy He's A Brute LOLLLLL ;) ;) :p :p <3 <3 He Does Have A Big HEART Ya'll :D :D :D ;) ;) ;)
We wake early the next morning, ready for the day ahead. I change into my rogue's armor, that Beargrim kindly held onto for me. I feel like we will be gone for a while and I might need it at some point. It is not too heavy and is the only thing I have from back home. It was given to me by my father's friend. I can not really remember his name too well but I am grateful for the help he provided when I left.
We leave before the sun has risen to its fullest and walk along the weathered path of Beargrim's home town. Eventually we arrive at a forest and we stop. I look at my companions and ask, 'Are you sure this is the right path?'
Katia assures me that it is the correct path and that we should keep walking, so we continue. We walk through the forest and soon discover it is hard to see very far ahead, as the trees have grown close together, forming a thick wall. But, this does not discourage us and we carry on with our journey.
The forest is a beautiful place and reminds me of my childhood a little. That was a long time ago now but the forests of my home town were very pretty and my parents would take me there once a month when my father was not busy with something or another.
I loved those days but they always made me wish I had a sibling to enjoy them with. I had an older brother, Henry. He was about 4 years older than me but he died when I was a baby so I never knew him. My parents said they wished I had known him but I do not know how I feel about it. How can one miss someone they never really knew? But, maybe I do miss him, or maybe it is just the idea of having a sibling, that I miss. I do, however, know that I miss my parents without any doubts.
Someone pokes me in the side, waking me from my thoughts. I look at them and realise we have stopped. I look over at Katia and Ellawyn, who are whispering about something.
"What are you talking about?"
Ellawyn looks at me nervously, "Markus. I was saying to Katia that there is a Cult of the Dragons called eye-blades. I need you to go look ahead and see if there are any near by."
"Fine."
I walk along the trail, keeping to the shadows as to stay out of sight. Eventually, I reach an area of the woods and hear voices. I can not make out what they are saying but I have a feeling they are the eye-blades that Ellawyn spoke of and I notice they are heading towards a cave in the distance.
I tell them what I found and Ellawyn looks worried. I ask her what is wrong but she simply says that the group should not be messed with and we must take them out when we arrive at the cave.
"Cave?"
Darius laughs, "If you had been listening, Markus, then you would have heard that the cave is our destination."
I roll my eyes and I ask what our plan is but my companions just look at each other.
"You have a plan, right?"
Teagan smiles this time, "Why don't I just hit them over the head with my fist?"
I laugh, "As much as I would love to see that Teagan, I doubt that would be very subtle."
"Yeah, probably not."
"I think we should be stealthy in our approach."
They all, surprisingly, agree and we think about how each of us could work together in taking down the eye-blades, or at least sneaking past them.
"Well Teagan, Katia, Darius and I have weapons. Seth, Ellawyn and Safiya have magic. I could always sneak past them."
Seth objects to my suggestion, "But Markus, is that not dangerous if you get caught."
"Yes but so is nearly getting assassinated," I mutter under my breath.
Seth looks at me confusingly, "What?"
I watch Teagan, raging in frustration at the time it is taking us to plan our attack. He is yelling in anger and complaining about how long it has been since we set off from Beargrim's house. He starts swinging his sword and it catches on a tree. A branch is torn of by the blade and falls to the forest floor.
"Markus. You were saying?"
"Never mind, it does not matter. Yes, it is dangerous but it is important and I will not have any objections."
"Well, at least let me imbue your sword with an enchantment so you have an advantage over them."
I sigh, "Fine. If it makes you happy."
I hold out my sword and he casts an enchantment over it. I have no idea what he does to it but I do not ask as I would have no knowledge of magic. When he finishes with my sword, he starts working on our companions' weapons.
As he is finishing his work on Katia's arrows, I hear the sound of an animal running towards our group. I pull out my sword again as a large dire wolf leaps through the air towards Seth. But, before I can do anything, one appears behind me distracting me from what is happening to Seth. I wield my sword, fighting off the large black beast. It keeps up with me, teeth baring and it's mouth foaming with saliva.
Eventually, I slay it and it drops to the ground, blood staining the leaves beneath our feet. Almost immediately after, I see Darius being attacked by another. He is on the ground, the wolf on his chest. I run over and with precision, cut it through the side. I pull it off of Darius, who has sustained injuries in his battle with the monster.
I watch as the rest of the group fight off the rest of the beasts. Eventually, they are all dead and we take a rest to help Seth and Darius who were both injured in the fight. Katia and Safiya work together to try to heal the pair of them, while I sit and take a rest. I have a few minor scratches but nothing worth making a big deal of at the moment.
