New Orleans/Music EP???
So here's what I'm thinking...
A NEW ORLEANS themed world that has it all...
1. Bourbon Street - full of parties and night clubs and booze - I imagine a more modern two-story club and a dive bar with sticky floors, I also think of a grand opera house where a singer, violinist, or live rock bands can perform. The streets can be lined with dangling star lights and filled with music. (Those who have been there know the street is vastly different from day to night)! I also image performers on the streets - the iconic painted statue man, a tap dancer, a self-taught drummer, and a lonely saxophone. We can incorporate a saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and drums. Additionally, opera and jazz music. We really expand the music we have in game, especially the big band music and jazz... We can take inspiration from the greats - Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald... and even new agers like Michael Bublé (Apologies if your favorite isn't mentioned).
Sims can be performers, own a club, distill their own beer. There can be a Mardi Gras festival in the Spring, with trinkets you can purchase- the beads, posters for your walls, little flags, T-shirts! The festival can have a marching jazz band of sorts play and maybe a parade (though I think this might be too complicated), there can be fireworks or perhaps the color powder thrown (your sims can be different colors and have to shower to return to normal) or silly string, and discount drinks. There can also be special items, like masks and King cakes, an area to picnic, and perhaps a booth to try on various historical costumes and snap pictures. If possible a lot could be split, where the owner lives in an apartment above the bar they own, or just have a livable apartment complex above the businesses. Truly, this district would be fun and full of life and at the end of the day be a celebration of the music, because some of the finest musicians in the world have originated here.
2. Garden District - A truly handsome part of the city with large, tiered homes that incorporate immaculate gardens. It is high class, historic, and stylish all at the same time. This area includes a large, breathtaking park encompassed with a canopy of trees. If you desire, your sim can take a trolley around the park or even allow it to transport you over to another district in the world. We can incorporate a picnic function here as well, spending a day in the park with family or on a date. There could be a fountain to play in, butterflies to catch, and birds to feed. There is also a small clothing boutique, magazine stand, antique shop, and art gallery, showcasing the latest and most luxurious pieces. Don't forget a fine dining restaurant, presenting delicious foods NOLA is known for across the globe.
This district is also known for its hotels and B&Bs. I am uncertain if this aspect could be incorporated into the game; however, if we could own hotels as businesses and run them, I'd find that a thrilling aspect of gameplay indeed.
3. French Quarter - (Yes, I know Bourbon street is a part of this district...but truly only a small part of what the city has to offer) - This area is historic, secretive, romantic, and perhaps a tad haunted- however creepy, this part of the city is also timeless. Sims can walk along the river front, grab a coffee, live in hand-crafted homes with balconies to die for, and feel the city to life (could this be literally...heheh!?) This area is mixed in wealth - rich businessmen are neighbors to struggling artists and street merchants. But they have come together to form a unique and vibrant community.
I also imagine this area as both residential and commercial. Several lots of varying size and wealth to encompass every resident type. A cemetery modeled after Lafayette Cemetery - It holds the graves of notable residents and the sims will have the option of burying their own dead there, with interactions of "talk to loved ones" and their ghost will appear. Additionally, this can be a vampire/medium hang out with interactions of their own. There could be candle light vigils (totally borrowed a photo from the TV show The Originals) and different moodlets associated with reconnecting with their loved ones. One lot will house the infamous Pontalba Building, as an apartment complex (at least four lots here). There will also be a restaurant flaunting all of the beloved and delicious treats NOLA has to offer- all things Cajun and Creole and mouth-watering goodness in a bite. (I truly believe this EP could sell itself on the beignets alone! heheh!) I imagine vendors in the streets selling art or handcrafted pieces, such as jewelry or candles or furniture. Just pop-up arts and crafts sales. Perhaps horse-drawn carriage rides through the district could be offered??
There could also be another festival - a famous one in the area is the Creole Tomato Festival. It is a bit quirky, but the tomato is a star in these parts. It is a celebration to honor their farmers, but we could use it to celebrate the traditions. There are tomato eating contests, they sell a special bloody mary and cookbooks. There are even special recipes- fried green tomatoes, stuffed shrimp with grilled tomato over jasmine rice, creole tomato gelato, crawfish pies, and more!!
Lastly, I know people are excited about different supernatural elements being incorporated into the game. Thus, New Orleans wouldn't be complete without some voodoo in the French Quarter. I imagine lots of different spells and charms- a house blessing spray, spirit be gone furniture cleaner, kitschy dolls, a dancing ritual to get rid of ghosts, random ghost possession, special charms/potions for love or cursing the enemy or for luck or good fortune. Not sure how this would play out, but it would be intriguing to see!!
I know this was a lot, but I wanted to get all my ideas written out for you!! Let me know your thoughts, critiques, additions I should make. Hope you enjoy!!
