I thought I was going to join this scenario because it does come up sometimes in my rotational play. I had a couple named Yves and Nora in Windenburg who seemed like they were on the way out. Yves is a hipster digital artist and Nora is very cottagecore and pulls heavily from Cottage Living.
Nora was one of three ladies that Yves dated early on but the other two married off to others than Yves. While I was playing Nora in a group house with 3 other YA sims in the lofts in the converted church in Windenburg, Yves who I was not playing asked her to move in so I went with it. They moved in together in his house with Yves's sister Sylvie which is the cottage that starts out with Candy Behr but I've tailored it to these sims. Sylvie is a bookish teen who spends a lot of time reading, ice skating or knitting. Everyone in that household loves to knit including Yves, they are all creative. Yves and Sylvie are close and have an excellent sibling relationship. Sylvie is basically the opposite of a rebel.
Anyway, Yves played the field before Nora moved in. She then redecorated his house and made him get rid of some of his bachelor pad stuff. They went on a date and then they all went on a skiing trip to Mt. Komorebi. It was a lot of fun but Yves rolled the whim that he wanted to dump Nora because he'd fallen out of love already. I had him go to bed and then I checked if he still had that whim in the morning. He did so I had him dump Nora. They were both really upset and went through an awkward phase afterward. I thought about canceling the trip or sending Nora home to move out but I decided to let them finish the trip and decide at the end.
They spent a lot of time having deep conversations but staying in different parts of the same house. Nora spent a bit more time with Sylvie but mostly on her own. She and Yves still had a spark though so they had a messy, complicated relationship. When they got home from the trip, they had a "this is it" discussion where they needed to decide what they were doing. They decided to go on a date and by the end, they were back together. Nora rolled the whim to have a child. So now, Yves and Nora are engaged, planning a wedding and expecting one on the way. So, it was messy and dramatic but they haven't actually broken up. I keep wondering if Yves will roll more ambivalent whims but that train has left the station, buddy. He actually seems happy and I remodeled the house with another bedroom and a basement including another bathroom. Yves has a den in which to put his hobbies, Sylvie can shut the door on them all with a library and Nora sort of runs everything else.
There was a break up but they stayed together. I'm sure I'll have others that will be clean breaks soon enough.
