Rags to Riches challenge??

I watched a video by The sim supply on youtube and one of his videos was doing rags to riches and it seems like lots of fun. Anyone do it? How did you do yours?
  • I kinda cheated on my one because I couldn't figure out how to get rid of funds and with having a new baby I was like this would be too hard. But i bought a bunch of house items to use up the money but have them keep it in their inventory until they have the same price in money to place it. Since this was my first one I just figured I would try it out. It's hard and fun I have to try to keep up with their needs and working.
  • I've done rags to riches a number of times, but I admit I didn't bother with rules. I just did what made sense for my story. I try to limit my sim to a number of activities. For example, my outdoorsy sim made money through gardening and fishing.... and eventually woodworking as he needed the handiness skill to complete his fishing aspiration.. It would have been too much (and would feel too cheaty) if he also took up painting or writing books in order to make more money.

Also, it's always fun for me to start out my sim with no money and no possessions. He would eventually earn enough for a tent and a cooler, then slowly progress to a house.

I'm doing a variation of R2R. At first, it ended up as a matriarchy since my founders' only child was a girl. Here's the family tree.
  • I tired doing this then vlad came in stalking my poor sims i had give up challenge cause of the trolling vampires..
  • I did a simple version, but I never quite made it to "riches" lol I just got to a point where my sim was able to live a good life in her own home and called it done. xD
  • My Super Sim started out like this. I started him as a toddler then when he became a teen his grandmother died in a house fire that destroyed everything. I played it pretty strict till he had a decent house built on his staring plot and married his first wife and had a kid. By then two sims working and his ability to spend a few hours painting made the money aspect trivial since then I found other challenges for him and when he got married after that I allowed the wife’s assets to come with her which given that his next wife was Bella Goth his riches came pretty quick after that.

I did a Rags to Riches. But after Gen 1, I decided to turn it into a full Legacy Challenge, which I'm in Gen 6 now. But in the R2R's, my Sim used Gardening & Fishing as her method to get money. She married at some point, and her husband didn't have a job either and he lived off the land with her. It's been so fun to see this through a legacy perspective. I was able to complete the challenge in full in Gen 1. So all my future Generations, they were allowed to have jobs and stuff. But it's been a blast starting off with just a tent, building a home and seeing the Forrester Legacy flourish as they now have $4.3 million dollars. That's been the best part.....seeing how far the family has come.

    I love this!
  • I am trying a R2R for the first time, not really sure of all the variations but mine is a homeless teen who just appeared wandering around Windenburg with no money, no family or friends, and no skills. Of course the game required I buy land, so he bought Mid-Nowhere then zeroed out funds. And he got a teen job (landscaper) but it was a hard week getting by til the first paycheck, napping on venue sofas, grabbing free bar chips to survive, showering at the gym, singing karaoke for fun and then learning to sing for a few simoleans enough to buy some actual pub grub that stuck to his ribs longer than the chips.

He got lucky that Victor Feng befriended him while they were both fishing, and invited him over...he took full advantage of a fridge he could scrounge Quick Meals from, nice bathrooms, comfy sofa to nap on, and big TV and friendly conversations. But being half-exhausted and close to hunger all the time while mostly penniless was really tough, so he figured out that by joining The Upper Crust club, he could not afford to cook anything, but he could at least grab plates and eat the excellent food others cooked while chatting them up and having a good time in comfort!

Finally after his first weekend of getting paid, he got the cheapest bed available, stuck it out in the open on his lot, and had the first decent night's sleep that actually stayed with him instead of fading away so quickly, enough that he could afford to accept an invite to party with Yuki Behr at The Bluffs.

My game was accidentally made a lot harder because I chose Spring as the season to start in, so NOTHING wild to eat was available, and it was cold and wet, and of course my settings also were for the longest seasons...so it's still a cold, wet, crappy Spring with nothing harvestable to eat.
And he caught a fish but couldn't figure out how to make any money with it or eat it, so he mounted it before it spoiled in his pocket. I guess I might need to look that up.

Wondering if I should try a truly Homeless Teen R2R in which owning anything you can't carry with you is off-limits, so no sleeping in any bed of your own, no putting any structures or furnishings on your plot of land, and continuing to depend on couch-surfing at venues and friends' homes, and eating at friends' homes and bars whenever you can afford the luxury of paying to eat? Seems if you have to be a truly homeless teen like that, you ought to be allowed to at least work the part-time job, but maybe have to requirement of graduating with a passing grade in school? It has been interesting so far but it's only a week in.
