I absolutely adore spiral staircases irl, and I'd love to see my sims use them. Besides, I am a strong believer that the details of the environment with which the sims are surrounded with greatly effect gameplay and immersion in the plot, and eventually attachment to the characters/sims. A variety of staircases would bring that 'something' to homes, adding character.
Im exactly the same way. I don't just create my sims, I create their environment too. I know a lot of people may not relate, but even a small detail like stairs makes me more attached to the family and their story.
