Terrain paint masking?

I remember in sims 3, you could use floor tiles to mask off areas for terrain painting. The paint would not go under the tiles. I found out you cannot do that anymore. Does anybody have a solution? I had a stroke a few years ago, and also have arthritis. My hands aren’t steady enough to paint straight lines. I need to add dirt to flowerbeds and under hedges.
