When it comes to human/non-human pairings, I mostly not worry about them. However, there are at least three pairings (romantic and not) that could factor as such a pairing (all sharing a character):
My advice is, I suppose, is to try and portray it in a positive enough light. Unless the intent is to show the bad sides of it, portray it as a very good thing. (That's the best advice I can give, anyway)

Spoiler
The first one is Annette and Bill. When Annette is first in Twinbrook, she tries to make sense of how different this one is from the one she's lived in (Answer: very different.). However, she manages to find Bill (sort of; The circumstances are rather...interesting) So for a few days, she's happy to be with him (even though this is, well, Bill). The first pairing for her, she is able to have someone she missed deeply from her life before.
The second pairing is far more sinister. Annette was only in Twinbrook as part of a strange little game between her and The Builder, which she lost. As a result, she was then forced to remain under their control. In fact, they basically hammer in the point by forcing her to marry her. Pretty much anything they do in regards to her has to do with control.
The last one is between Annette and one of the assistants, Ox-Head. Here, these two have something in common: They're both half-humans (Ox-Head is half-demon). By most standards, he's a bit of an oddball, and most certainly not mentally well. Nonetheless, he's kind enough to Annette, since he states she isn't mean to him like everyone else is. Thus, an unlikely friendship is created.
In other words, one pairing had to do with longing, another had to do with control, the last one has to do with friendship found in bad circumstances.
