@MedleyMisty - I can only speak for myself - but I have 3 sims. Because they are sims in my story, I know them. I just started this and only have 1 pen pal per sim. This seems to work for me. I don't necessarily have to play an extra game to respond to letters. So far most of my pics have come from previous screenshots from my current story. But that was my goal, to get to know my characters better. Putting them in situations where they have to interact with people outside my own head.
That was my motivation. Yours may be completely different and that is perfectly okay. So if one is your limit, then one it is! Get comfortable before you do more. :) There is no rule on how many you have to have. If it's a chore you won't do it. Do what's fun. :)
