The Sims Content Collection & additional Ideas

Greetings everyone! ✨ Before we jump into the actual discussion/topic I'd like to inform you that I am not a very experienced simmer, and prior to this point played the Sims in a very very casual way. I'm learning but I guess that will take some time. Difficult to catch up to peoples years of experience with everything this franchise has to offer. 😅 There are so many things you can make videos about which lead me to the idea of this discussion.

What I'd like to talk about is the general approach for content creation mainly tailored for YouTube. This could be a great starting point for others who might have the interest to create a channel and start making videos on their own. For starters, I will simply put together a list with my ideas and stuff that's been going through my head. Feel free to share your experiences and ideas, or even video projects you've been able to realize; I can then go ahead and add them to the list or even elaborate further on specific points. Don't forget to link the video -- probably helps getting across the idea behind it.

The Sims Content Collection

  • Standard Sims 4 Playthrough
Imagine something like a fresh start or your first household you intend to experience the game with and simply capture that journey/experience of playing through the game. Though this is a loose concept since you don't necessarily play the game with some form of strict end-game goal or ending, I'd say it might potentially be a great idea for a video series
  • Building Videos / Speedbuilds
I think this is an absolute classic in regards to Sims content. Sharing your creations and designs, showcasing the outstanding craftsmanship of one of your builds or even something simple as a quick Speedbuild. These type of videos definitely go into the direction of infinite creativity, since you can do basically anything
  • Tutorials / How-To-Videos
A natural thing for any nieche of content creation. Ranging from how to install mods properly all the way to how you can build the perfect house. You can basically take any complex concept the game throws at its players and give some instruction on how to do it / how to improve on something -- it's pretty much the same idea of creative freedom here
  • Collaboration Projects
This is a huge bonus of the awesome Sims community. I'd say it's quite easy to gather some people and start creating content together, or even share work on projects you might come up with. Creating awesome videos is a great thing but if you can put the right people together -- well that can definitely enhance the experience.
  • Sim Creation
Do your Sims look better than anyone elses, did you master the editor, and can you create celebrity-lookalikes? Sim-creations are always interesting to see; especially when there is some interesting story attached to it.
  • The Sims Franchise / The Sims / Sims 2 / Sims 3 / Sims 4
Not necessarily a need to limit yourself to The Sims 4. Most of the video ideas can be done for previous titles and who doesn't like that sporadic hit of nostalgia?
  • The Sims Mobile
As much as you can create these backwards compatible videos about older titles, you might as well create videos about the Sims mobile. As far as I know there are currently two releases available on your smartphone.
  • Project Rene / Sims 5
You could see this as news coverage, speculative content, your dreams and wishes -- when it comes to Project Rene there are tons of interesting things happening and lots of points do discuss. Definitely worth to make videos about.
  • Criticism and Feedback
More of a general thing but in case you have any type of criticism or feedback towards the game, I'd say that always makes for a fantastic video.
  • Sims Stories
This is a topic I unfortunately have absolutely no clue about. Maybe you guys can comment on this and help me out. As far as I know this is simmers creating custom stories for each of their Sims and crafting these beautiful stories and events to link everything together. Through the roof creative and I assume the videos you can create with this are insanely good.
  • Your Sims Origin Story
This is pretty simple and straightforward: What got you into the Sims? How did you get in touch with it the first time -- anything goes and I know for a fact that a lot of people have very interesting stories to tell when it comes to their first interactions with this beautiful franchise.
  • Content Updates / Patch Notes
News coverage. There are frequent updates to the game, new packs being announced, and I'd say even news about Project Rene would fall into this category.
  • Seasonal Event / Theme inspired Videos
Christmas, Halloween, Seasons, Sport-Events; I don't even know. Anything that is big as in a seasonal event or even something like the World Cup (wouldn't recommend doing videos on that though).
  • Content-Packs / Add-ons
New Content-Pack released? You make the decision to purchase it? Well, why not capture your experience with it on camera and turn that into a video?
  • Custom Content and Modifications
Also something I don't really have any experience with but I'd imagine that the modding community is huge and I am very certain that you can do some crazy crazy stuff when adding a couple of Mods to the game.
  • YouTube Shorts / TikTok / Instagram Content
Had some interesting event or something crazy happen while playing but it's not worth to create a whole video about it? You might turn it into a short and upload it to your favourite platform for that type of content. You could even take videos so for example a speedbuild and turn some important pieces of it into a short.
  • Livestreaming
I am not sure if I would label this a natural progression, but I assume this is more or less a logical step once you've gathered an audience to try out livestreaming. Might be a very fresh and different experience to actually have you viewers interact with you and have a much more natural experience.

Outside of the Scope

Something else I'd like to get your opinion on is videos about other games. Even the biggest Sims content creators either livestream other games or have an extra channel to upload content for something that is not about the Sims. Of course, I'm talking about games that share a general direction with the Sims; so it is either something life-sim alike, building/decorating, or even simply sharing some of the wholesome aspects of the franchise. To give some examples: Disney Dreamlight Valley, Stardew Valley, Houseflipper, Planet Zoo, .

My personal opinion is that I would like more Sims content creators to be open about this and connect it to their main channel. The ones I watch most are lilsimsie, James Turner, and Deli. They do other stuff in livestreams or on other channels but I only really follow main channel content and that is more or less Sims only. I'm thinking that a lot of viewers, or in general people who are enthusiastic about the Sims definitely play other games too, and having your favourite content creator giving you a high quality video with his/hers glimpse at something outside the direct scope of the Sims, seems like a pretty decent addition to me.

So, I guess that's kinda it! 😅 In case you have any questions, feel free to ask. Happy simming and I hope you're having a great day. Btw. Christmas is coming. 🎄
